• Good evening, Washington families,

This is Principal Paul Travers with your weekly message.

I hope all of our Washingtonians had a great first week to the school year.

Tomorrow, September 4th there will be no school in observance of Labor Day. School will continue Tuesday September 5th.

On Tuesday, the Washington Montessori Elementary School Parent/Student Handbook will be going home in your Washingtonians Monday folder. Please thoroughly review the parent student handbook as it contains important information for school operations.

As reminder during dismissal only students who walk from their home to the school are designated as walkers. If your child is a car rider, please do not attempt to get out of your vehicle and walk up to the building for any reason. Students will not be released from the car rider line to anyone who is not in a vehicle.

As reminder doors open at 7:25 for students to enter into the building, at 7:45 students are late. It is very important that all of our Washingtonians are at school by 7:45, as we begin instruction right away and we would hate for any of our Washingtonians to miss important learning time.

This week we will be conducting DIBELS assessments. These assessments will help us better what we need to do to make sure that all of our Washingtonians are reading on grade level and beyond.

On Wednesday, we will have a practice lockdown drill in the morning. Families, please talk to your Washingtonians about the importance of taking this lockdown drill seriously. Having conversations with your Washingtonian prior to them being in the building for the lockdown drill will help ease anxiety and stress.

Thursday, September 7th is Team Jersey day. Washingtonians are invited to wear their favorite team jersey as we get excited to kick off the football season.

Your Health and Wellness tip for this week is: Kids thrive when they have a routine. That's why one of the top mental health tips for kids is to have them follow a daily routine. Schedule times for studying, playing, snacks, and meals, this will help reduce stress and uncertainty.

Our open house originally scheduled for September 14th will be rescheduled for the following week. Be on the lookout for the updated date and time later this week.

Washington, we Honor Community, Show Excellence and Think Critically. Have a great Labor Day weekend and let's get 1% Better Every Day.

    Paul B. Travers
