Serve Students with the Greatest Needs

Support for Exceptional Children

Increase funding caps that currently deny services to students with disabilities.

To support student safety, GCS needs:

Increase the 13% enrollment cap on state funding for students with disabilities to 16% and transition to a weighted student funding formula that accounts for severity of needs.

Why this matters:

In GCS, 15.7% of enrolled students*  are classified as exceptional children, but the state only funds up to 13% of enrollment, leaving 2.7% of our students without appropriate access to resources for the services they need and the resources we receive spread too thin.

Transitioning to a weighted funding formula would ensure all children with disabilities receive adequate support based on their individual needs, not a cap set in 1993.
