Periodically, the Board of Education will post policy updates and naming nominations for public comment to receive input from members of the community. Items that are currently open for comment are posted on this page with instructions on how to provide your feedback. The Board of Education values your opinion and appreciates your feedback on these items.

Policy Committee Report

January 14, 2024 -- The Board of Education is seeking public input on the following policies:

Policy 1311/4003 Parental Notification - Withholding Consent has been revised to reflect changes to state law requiring a notification that parents may opt out of the North Carolina Youth Tobacco Survey.

Policy 3420 Student Promotion and Accountability has been revised upon the recommendation of the North Carolina School Boards Association (NCSBA) to reflect new state requirements that students complete career development plans in middle school and in grade 10 to qualify for promotion.

Revisions to 4023/7233 Pregnant and Parenting Students and Employees are recommended to reflect new federal Title IX regulations providing specific protections and accommodations for students who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Policy 8305 Federal Grant Administration has been revised to reflect provisions in the federal uniform guidance protecting individuals who report fraud and abuse in federal grant administration from retaliation.

Policy 9300 Naming or Renaming of Facilities has been revised to clarify the process for the naming of new and existing facilities. These changes are recommended by the Policy Committee to ensure that naming processes for new facilities are completed in a timely fashion and to provide clear directions for community-driven naming and renaming processes that may occur twice per year.
