Turning your student’s strengths into a clear path forward

Every family wants their student to graduate with clarity and confidence. The Guilford Guarantee is Guilford County Schools’ promise to help make that possible — for every student, in every school.

Through the Guilford Guarantee, students have the opportunity to earn 12 hours of college credit (about one semester), a career credential or a work-based learning experience such as an internship or an apprenticeship — at no cost to families. Many students complete more than one of these pathways. 

The Guilford Guarantee is designed to give students time to imagine what’s possible, then explore their interests and begin building a plan with intention. Your student can earn a diploma with added value, finishing high school with clear, exciting options for the next chapter of life.

Growing into your strengths

As students move through Guilford County Schools, each year opens new opportunities — chances to try new things, discover natural strengths and notice what holds their interest. This progression follows a clear, intentional path that we create for your student: Excite, Explore and Experience.

In elementary school, students get excited.
Teachers introduce big ideas and early career awareness, helping students connect their curiosity to the many ways people contribute and solve problems. These early experiences build awareness that students continue to develop over time.

In middle school, students explore.
Students take a deeper look at their strengths using tools like the Paxton/Patterson career exploration labs and YouScience, an aptitude-based platform that identifies their unique abilities and connects them to academic and career pathways. With support from teachers and counselors, students learn how to interpret these insights and consider directions that align with how they learn and work best.

In high school, students experience.
Students put their strengths into practice through applied learning that connects coursework to future goals. They may earn college credit through Career and College Promise at GTCC, enroll in early or middle college programs or pursue advanced pathways such as aviation, engineering, pharmacy tech or cybersecurity. Students also take part in site visits, internships, apprenticeships and career academies, with opportunities to earn career credentials along the way.

Every GCS student leaves high school with a head start.That’s possible because GCS offers a remarkable range of opportunities. With more than 56 Career and Technical Education pathways — part of nearly 70 pathways across middle and high school — students have powerful choices about how they want to learn and grow. Some students focus on advanced coursework like AP or IB, others pursue career pathways, and many combine both — exploring fields like health sciences, technology, the arts, business and aviation.

The Guilford Guarantee reflects years of listening to families, partnering with local employers and designing programs that connect student strengths with evolving industry needs. No matter which school your student attends, they will gain experience and confidence they can carry into the next chapter of life.
