Businesses, corporate and private foundations, and individual contributors give to Guilford County Schools to support enrichment, academic initiatives and other opportunities for our students and teachers to achieve their best are fortunate to live in a community that believes in giving back. Our business and community partners have donated more than $1.6 million in cash and in-kind donations over the past three years.
Private contributions helped fund exceptional enrichment opportunities for students and allowed the district to fund initiatives geared toward personalizing learning opportunities for our students.
Does GCS Accept In-Kind Donations?
GCS does accept in-kind donations that align with district and school priorities. GCS may decline to accept in-kind donations that it determines do not fit these goals. In-kind donations are reviewed internally by staff to determine the school or district's capacity to receive and use a donation of equipment, technology, furniture, etc. The needs of schools and programs vary across the district.
School Board policy and procedure ECK, ECK-P provides additional guidance about donations.
If you are interested in contributing to a specific program or school, please contact that program or school directly to discuss the opportunity.
How Can I or My Organization Make a Donation?
Direct:
You can donate directly to Guilford County Schools. Businesses, foundations and individuals may donate directly to one of our schools. Contributions for a specific program or other restricted purpose are maintained in a separate funding account at the school. Larger contributions are managed by the district Financial Services Office.
To a donation partner:
The following organizations receive cash and donations on behalf of Guilford County Schools:
Enrichment Fund for the Guilford County Schools Inc.: For more than 20 years, this organization has provided more than $1 million in field trip scholarships, mini-grants for teacher classroom projects and other support for GCS.
GEA: Guilford Education Alliance (GEA) is an independent non-profit that galvanizes the community in support of Guilford County Schools (GCS) so that all of our children are building bright futures. GEA accepts donations for a variety of GCS projects and initiatives including the Teacher Supply Warehouse which provides more than $600,000 in school supplies to GCS educators for their classrooms.
Make a meal balance donation: Because the federal government has ended student meal waivers, GCS is no longer able to provide free breakfasts and lunches to students. All families are encouraged to fill out the meal benefits application at SchoolCafe.com. Students NOT attending a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) school will be required to pay for breakfasts and lunches unless they have qualified for free or reduced-price meals.
Our school staff will work with families to help them complete the meal application; however, qualifying for free meals does not allow the district to cancel any charge balances that were previously accrued.
If members of our community would like to assist in covering these balance charges, they can send a tax-deductible donation to GCS School Nutrition Services, Finance Department, 712 N. Eugene Street, Greensboro NC 27401. The memo line should note School Meal Charge Balance Donation. Donors can designate their donation toward a specific non-CEP school, if desired.
