I am a native of Charlottesville, Virginia and moved to Wilmington, North Carolina to attend UNCW. I received my BA in Psychology from UNCW and spent several years working as a behavior modification specialist, residential group home counselor, residential in-patient psychiatric counselor, drug prevention educator, and ropes course trainer. I took a five year break from the mental health field and worked in retail management for Marshalls and Ross before returning to university to earn my MS in Counselor Education from ECU. I worked for many not-for-profit and for-profit agencies providing mental health services to children, adolescents, and families. In 2011/12 I decided to pursue a graduate certificate in Play Therapy from UNCC and successfully completed the program in 2013.
I am a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) as well as being a licensed professional school counselor. I hold memberships in several professional organizations related to mental health and school counseling.
In June 2013 I moved to Greensboro, North Carolina and was hired as the Freshmen counselor at High Point Central High School. I was there until February 2016, when I transitioned to The Kearns Academy. School counseling is very different from the mental health counseling that I had been providing for the last twenty-plus years. It is challenging and rewarding in very different ways from the counseling I've been accustomed to providing.
I am very glad to be at The Kearns Academy and I look forward to working with you and your student.
