Ms. Melissa Carino
I am originally from New York City and lived throughout upstate NY. I attended college at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Psychology, Masters Degree in Applied Psychology and a Certificate of Advanced Study in School Psychology. I was a School Psychology Intern in Guilford County Schools before working in Davidson County Schools and returned to GCS in 2001. I have been fortunate to be the School Psychologist at Nathanael Greene as one of my primary schools since my return to GCS in addition to my other school assignments. My role centers around providing teachers and staff with training and consultation services to assist students to reach their life goals. I see my role as an advocate for children, which includes the role of the evaluation of possible disabilities. I assist with providing support and trainings on Section 504 for the district as well as trainings for Intervention Support Teams (IST) and Autism. I also provide coaching and training support for Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS). My experience includes evaluations for children in preschool through high school in addition to providing comprehensive psychological services such as consultations and short-term counseling. In addition, I have served on the Psychological Services leadership team over several terms throughout my career.
Outside of work, I enjoy all outside activities, spending time with friends and family, reading and watching sports.
