Hello Nathanael Greene Family! My name is Traci Morris. I have been a school counselor since 1998! I have been here at Nathanael Greene since 2001. I love Nathanael Greene and the surrounding community. I have 2 children, Matthew and Amanda, who attended Nathanael Greene during their elementary years and am so thankful for the teachers who have educated them on their journey.
I have the opportunity to work with your child(ren) in a variety of ways to enhance their educational experience. The school counseling program at Nathanael Greene Elementary School is designed to follow the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for Comprehensive School Counseling and aligns with the American School Counselor Association National Model for School Counseling. The counseling program addresses academic success through student development in three domains: Cognitive, Career Readiness and Socio-Emotional.
The focus of cognitive development is for students to acquire the attitudes, knowledge and skills that contribute to effective learning in school and across the life span; to complete school with academic preparation essential to choose from a variety of substantial post-secondary options including college; and to understand the relationship of academics to the world of work and to life at home and in the community. The focus of career readiness is for students to acquire the skills to investigate the world of work in relation to knowledge of self and to make informed career decisions; employ strategies to achieve future career success and satisfaction; and to understand the relationship between personal qualities, education and training and the world of work. Lastly, the focus of Socio-Emotional development is for student to acquire the attitudes, knowledge and interpersonal skills to help understand and respect self and others; make decisions, set goals and take appropriate action to achieve goals; and to understand safety and survival skills.
I will be providing classroom guidance lessons to all students concentrating on one of the three domains listed above in order to promote academic success. In addition, I am available to meet with students in small groups or individually, as needed, if there is a concern that is interfering with their ability to achieve academic success. The concern may be school or home based. Unfortunately, it is beyond the scope of the school counseling position to provide intensive long term counseling or therapy services. Therefore, I am not able to provide consistent counseling or therapy to the students at Nathanael Greene Elementary School. If your child is in need of these services, I will gladly provide you with a list of outside agencies that have personnel professionally trained to assist you with any deeper concerns. Please know that any information your child shares with me is strictly confidential with the following exceptions: 1. Someone's life is in danger; 2. Abuse or Neglect is suspected or 3. There is a court order requiring me to reveal any previously disclosed information.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at Nathanael Greene Elementary School (336) 685-5000. If I am not available you may leave a message on my voicemail and I will get back to you as soon as possible. I look forward to working with you and your child(ren) this school year.
