This is my 15th year teaching, and my second year teaching in North Carolina! My family and I moved to Greensboro in the summer of 2017, and I was thrilled to begin my NC journey at Lincoln. I received my B.S. in Biology at Erskine College, and my M.A.T in Biology Education from Winthrop University. I am certified in AP Biology and in Project Lead the Way Biomedical Science through the University of South Carolina. I received my National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in 2008, and just submitted my renewal in spring of 2018. In South Carolina, I also worked for 6 years in virtual education with the SC State Department of Education where I wrote and taught online curriculum to students throughout the state. I have written district curriculums for Physical Science and Biology in both Clover School District and Florence School District One.
All of these experiences have translated into the creation of a truly unique and engaging middle school science curriculum. My philosophy is that students need to be engaged in real-world problem solving to develop both engineering design and inquiry skills. Students develop unique solutions to problems and work in the lab daily in our curriculum. My goal is to create students who are better able to think critically about the world around, apply their knowledge and skills to develop solutions, and work independently toward their own success.
