• Welcome to another school year!  My name is Philia Leach, your child’s Mathematics teacher.  In the classroom, I plan to help students achieve their personal learning goals. I am very excited for this school year and the things we will be able to accomplish.

Students, parents, and teachers need to work together as a learning community to motivate students to achieve. Throughout the year I will communicate with you through our schools website, telephone calls, e-mails, progress reports, and guardian-teacher conference nights.  Please feel free to communicate with me as well through email or by calling the school.  I will do my best to respond within 24 hours.

My philosophy is that math should be engaging and fun and I will do my best to create an environment where students will experience success.  In addition, there are a few key points to keep in mind. A student’s success depends on effort, attendance, and a positive attitude.  It is also important to say that class won’t always be “fun”.  Math can be difficult, students will struggle at some point and to be successful it will take lots of hard work. Like any skill, improving in mathematics takes practice. Class time alone will not be sufficient time for students to truly master their math skills. At-home practice will be crucial for success this year. Relevant practicing involves completing assigned homework, playing challenging math games online, and real life activities that encourages doing math outside of the classroom.

Thank you for your time and please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.  I am ready to launch into mathematics teaching and learning. I look forward to a terrific year with rigorous engaging lessons, high expectations, and students being involved in critical thinking and problem solving.
