My name is Nancy Van Duin and I have been serving ELLs (English Language Learners) in Guilford County Schools for seven years. This is my sixth year working with students mainly in Grades 3-5 at Falkener Elementary. I am honored to be part of such a culturally rich and diverse community of learners.
Before moving to Greensboro, I taught English as a Foreign Language in middle school and high school in the Netherlands, where Dutch was the primary language. I also worked on the business side of an international advertising agency in Amsterdam, the Netherlands for ten years. My passion for learning, language, cultures and investing in people led me to pursue a Master of Education degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (Regent University, 2009). My Bachelor of Arts degrees are in Political Science and German Language and Literature (University of Oregon, 1992).
When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband, two sons and daughter. I like to read, travel, hike, cook, and spend time with family and friends.
Mission and Contact:
My goal is to spark each student's desire to learn and grow not only academically, but also as a member of our community. I believe that all children have unique gifts and talents and that every student should be valued and encouraged to take responsibility for his or her earning. I'm excited to work with such an enthusiastic group of students this year.
Parents are always welcome to contact me with any questions or concerns about their student. Please contact me either via phone at (336) 370-8150 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you for your support!
