Carpentry I

Builds on the carpentry terminology and technical aspects developed in Core and Sustainable Construction. Topics include: hand tools, power tools, plans and elevations, concrete and reinforcing materials, floor systems, wall and ceiling framing, stair layout.

Carpentry II

In depth technical aspects of carpentry with emphasis on development of intermediate skills. The course content includes roof framing and applications, thermal and moisture protection, weatherization initiatives, windows and doors, and exterior finishing.

Carpentry III

Develop advanced technical aspects of carpentry with the emphasis on commercial drawing, cold-formed steel framing construction methods, drywall installations, drywall finishing procedures, doors and door hardware installation, and windows, door, floor and ceiling trim.

Core & Sustainable Construction

Introduction to components of residential constructions and building techniques used throughout the country. The course is intended for students who are interested in the many rewarding careers in the construction industry or want to expand their technical skills. Students will develop construction math skills, basic hand tools and power tools use, maintenance and safe operation. They will use standard and engineered lumber, nails, fasteners, sheathing materials and various other building materials that are utilized in the construction industry. Students will also learn framing techniques such as balloon and platform framing. They will frame floors, walls, and ceilings.
