My name is James Dorsett and I am in my 14th year of teaching elementary music and seventh year at Colfax Elementary. I earned my Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree and a Minor in Business from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2010. 

I have a student-centered approach in everything I do; from preparing lessons to planning performances. I share my passion and love for music with students in hopes of creating a spark, appreciation, and love of music in all students. I also teach music to help students learn lifelong skills and habits in hopes of becoming productive citizens in the world and in their communities.

My goal for students is to read, perform, and create music independently at a proficient level, beginning in Kindergarten and developed throughout all grade levels. I believe that all students can exceed expectations and I expect students to do their Viking BEST!
