Mr. Edgar C. Zimmerman, Sr.

Let’s meet Mr. Zimmerman

I have the pleasure of serving as Simkins Elementary School’s first Assistant Principal.  I am excited about the school year and how the Simkins faculty/staff, parents, and students have welcomed me with open arms and excitement.

I am originally from Raleigh, NC where I graduated from Millbrook Senior High School in 1987. I earned a Bachelors Science Degree in Mathematics-Secondary Education, from the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. Go Aggies! While in graduate school for secondary mathematics, I started my career as a classroom teacher at the James Benson Dudley High School. Go Panthers!  During my seven years at Dudley, I served as a department chair, school improvement team member, baseball coach, and assistant athletic director. I served as the math specialist for the school of education at NCA&TSU, TOSA for Guilford County Schools and Communities In Schools administrator for Dudley before becoming an assistant principal for GCS. I earned a Masters in School Administration and Leadership form UNC Greensboro. Go Spartans! With GCS I served as an Assistant Principal at Grimsley High, Kiser Middle, and the formally named Guilford Middle schools. July 2012, I became the founding principal for HOPE Academy, a private faith-base modified middle school. The past two years I served as an administrator for Caswell County Schools, assistant principal for Bartlett Yancey High and immediate past principal for Stoney Creek Elementary.

I enjoy riding my Harley Davidson motorcycle, fishing, playing ‘old man’ basketball, spending time and traveling with my family, refereeing and coaching basketball. My wife for 24 years is a math department instructor at NCA&TSU and doctoral candidate at UNC Greensboro, our oldest son Edgar, Jr. is a senior Accounting major at NCA&TSU, our younger son Lawson is a freshman Biological Engineer major at NCA&TSU, and our daughter is a sophomore athlete at Southeast High School. Go Falcons!

It is an honor to be a member of the Simkins family. We have an extremely talented faculty/staff, and incredible leader - principal Jordan, gifted students, supportive parents and community leaders. This 5th year of Simkins Elementary will be another year of positive students’ academic growth and teaching excellence in the classrooms. Simkins Sharks – SWIM; We will… Show respect, Work for excellence, Include everyone and Make responsible choices—as a continued tradition. Go SHARKS!
