  • Student clubs and organizations are an important part of our school culture.  There are social, academic and service related clubs.  All clubs are open and students can join at anytime during the year.  Some organizations require application.  For details on meeting times and member details, contact the Faculty sponsor.

    Anime Club

    Purpose:  A social club for  Anime and Manga enthusiasts.  This club hosts and annual MangaCon and recommends selections for the library Manga collection.

    DECA

    Purpose:  DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. Compete, travel, volunteer, learn, and have fun!

    DECA Alpha Male

    Purpose:  To encourage and motivate minority males to pursue & attend some form of post-secondary education.  This club will help these young men develop the skills essential for success when transitioning from high school to college, as well as in life.  The men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and other fraternity and sorority volunteers will actively participate in there meetings/ sessions.

    Dungeons and Dragons

    Purpose:  For beginner and advanced players of the fantasy tabletop role-playing game.

    EmpowHER

    Purpose:  EmpowHER is a club aimed at providing young women an avenue to build a visible faith in Christ in addition to helping them navigate high school from a Biblical standpoint. Themes include: Empower Her to be confident. Empower Her to be a leader and good role model. Empower Her to help the helpless and disenfranchised.

    Food Pantry Club

    Purpose:  To educate about food insecurity, support the Grimsley Goods Pantry, and organize food drives.

    Purpose:  To learn about gardening and cultivate crops for students to enjoy, share, and donate to Urban Ministry.

    Purpose:  The Hot Button Club will enable and maintain the open and productive discussion of political, social, and philosophical topics among students while maintaining respect for all viewpoints.

    Purpose:  "To encourage an interest in and an appreciation of the language, literature and culture of ancient Greece and Rome and to impart an understanding of the debt of our own culture to that of Classical antiquity."

    PAWS (Protecting Animals With Service)

    Purpose:  Our purpose is to help our community by educating members and others of animal suffrage, and volunteering time and resources to help animals in need.  We do this through fundraisers, collecting donations, spreading animal suffrage awareness, animal shelter/rescue visits, and promoting the wellbeing of all animals in our community.

    PLARN Club

    Purpose:  A service learning club.  Students learn to crocheting plastic bags into bedrolls for people experiencing homelessness.

    Playmasters

    Purpose:  The Playmasters produce theatrical shows for the school and greater community. All students, regardless of enrollment in a theatre class, are welcome to participate.

    Right Round Record Club

    Purpose:  Music appreciation and social club focusing on music and music delivery formats as a hobby - Examples include turntables, cassette players, 8 track players, digital, cd, streaming, with a heavy focus on turntables/vinyl records. The club strives to be inclusive and provide a space for positive interaction in person as opposed to strictly online. Topics range from introducing and listening to vinyl records to methods of cleaning and replacing needles on turntables.

    Rise Up, Speak Up!

    Purpose:  The purpose of the club is to provide students with leadership skills and opportunities that will assist them with finding their voices academically, socially, and overcome any other issues in order to feel empowered for success which will prepare them for college and/or career.

    Science Olympiad

    Purpose:  North Carolina Science Olympiad (NCSO) is a nonprofit organization with the mission to attract and retain the pool of K-12 students entering science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) degrees and careers in North Carolina. Every year NCSO hosts tournaments on university, community college, and public school campuses across the state. These tournaments are rigorous academic interscholastic competitions that consist of a series of different hands-on, interactive, challenging and inquiry-based events that are well balanced between the various disciplines of biology, earth science, environmental science, chemistry, physics, engineering and technology.

    Service Learning Ambassadors

    Purpose:  Service Learning Ambassadors is the main hub for everything service at Grimsley. In this club you get connected to Service Learning opportunities not only around the school but out in the community as well. SLA is also known for working closely with the seven main Elementary schools that feed into Grimsley to inspire and assist future Whirlies! We also provide help to anyone with x2VOL, the website where all service hours are documented, and provide updates to all service learning changes and information.

    Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica

    Purpose:  Inductions are in the spring and based on grades. Spanish students must have at least a B average in Spanish IV or above. Dues are $5.00 and seniors pay an additional $10.00 for their honor cords which have been approved for wear at graduation.

    Techno GEEK

    Purpose:  Techno GEEK is for those wanting to unwind by playing video games once every 3 weeks or so.  Volunteers from within the club bring their gaming systems and games to be stored in my locked closet throughout the school day.  Then from 4:00-5:30 everyone plays video games. We do meet on Fridays so all rides must arrive no later than 5:30 as there is no after school bus provided.

    The Poetry Project

    Purpose:  The Poetry Project is an organization that prides itself in using poetry to teach, inspire and build the communities that we call home. Through structured workshops, poetry slams and open mics, we create safe spaces to share our lives and tell our stories.     Purpose:  Introduce students to the growing sport of Ultimate (Frisbee), and play with and against other schools in NC tournaments.

    Whirlie Rocks

    Purpose:  To introduce the sport of climbing and teach climbers, from beginners through advanced, new climbing techniques in a safe and open place to climb and foster good health, fitness and problem solving skills.  We hope to open up scholarship opportunities at the college and university level.

    Young Adult Writers of Grimsley

    Purpose:  To provide a positive, supportive, and productive atmosphere for developing student creative writers to learn and grow.  In addition, the organization will teach students to harness creativity effectively with a variety of different self selected prompts, contests or workshops, and exercises so as to benefit an individual's skill and competence as a writer. Ultimately, the club strives to create a safe community for young writers at Grimsley in which creative writing, passion, and friendship all flourish.
