• *Important Information regarding the closures due to COVID-19*

    Guilford County Schools has opened 2 hotlines.

    The first hotline is the GCS student crisis hotline. This phone number should only be used by GCS students for a crisis of any kind. If it is an emergency, call 911. If during this time away from school a student has concerns about anxiety, depression, abuse, suicidal thoughts, or has no food, etc. a student should dial 336-332-7295. This number will be manned 24 hours a day, seven days a week by GCS counselors for at least the next two weeks.

    GCS has established a call center to answer incoming questions from students, parents and the general public. GCS employees, including translators, will staff the center and respond to inquiries about school nutrition, digital learning, health and wellness, special education, and employee relations issues, among other topics.

    The call center will operate Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for the next two weeks. The first full day of operation will be Tuesday, March 17, 2020. The GCS call center can be reached at 336-332-7290.

    GCS has opened 33 grab and go sites for food distribution. For a list of those locations, follow this link: List of 33 grab and go locations

    Hello! My name is Sarah Sexton and I'm proud to be General Greene's Professional School Counselor. 2020-2021 is my 3rd year at Greene, and my 8th year in Guilford County Schools.

    The role of Professional School Counselors is to support students with academic, career, and social/emotional development. This takes place through individual sessions, small groups, and classroom lessons.

    According to the GCS Elementary/Middle School Counselors homepage:

    "Elementary/Middle school counselors are educators uniquely trained in child development, learning strategies, self-management and social skills, who understand and promote success for today’s diverse students. They implement a comprehensive school counseling program to support students through this important developmental period. The program provides education, prevention and intervention activities, which are integrated into all aspects of children’s lives. The program teaches knowledge, attitudes and skills students need to acquire in academic, career and social/emotional development, which serve as the foundation for future success."

    I have the following roles within Greene:
    * The only counselor for about 475 students
    * Intervention Support Team (IST) Coordinator
    * 504 Coordinator
    * Check-In/Check-Out facilitator
    * Member of PBIS, the Attendance Team, and School Climate Committee
    * Completing ADHD Screeners
    * Middle School registration
    * Career Day coordinator

    If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding your student's academic, career, and/or social emotional development, please reach out to me at sextons2@gcsnc.com, or 336-545-2015.

    Outside of school, I enjoy visiting my family in New York and New Jersey, photography, gardening, and spending time with my two orange tabbies, Timmy and Bear.
