• BIENVENIDOS A ESPANOL!!

I am really looking forward to starting another year with many new and old faces. Let me introduce myself:

My name is Jennifer Austin, and I am from Greensboro, although I was born in the booming metropolis of Shelby, N.C. My interest in the Spanish language began in sixth grade at Kiser Middle School and continued on through Grimsley High. I was fortunate to have the same teacher eighth grade through my senior year. She is the reason I do what I do.

I completed my B.A. in Spanish from Gardner-Webb University in 3.5 years and was inducted into the National Spanish Honor Society as well as WHO’S WHO Among College Students and America’s Teachers. After two years of working for a private tutoring company, I moved to Alabama. There I attended Auburn University. While I was earning my Masters in Hispanic Studies, I also taught several classes. (War Eagle!)

While at GWU, I attended the Culture and Language Institute in Alajuela, Costa Rica as part of my major. I have also been a translator for several Latino teams (although my main assignment was the track team from Ecuador) during the 1999 Special Olympic World Games in the Triangle area.

In the spring of 2002, I completed my lateral entry requirements at Greensboro College and have been officially licensed as a teacher. While at GC, I was the only one in my class to be inducted into KAPPA DELTA PI, the International Education Honor Society.

As a teacher at Western for sixteen years now, I am department head, sponsor the INTERACT Club and the SOCIEDAD HONORARIA HISPÁNICA. I also thoroughly enjoy attending sporting events to watch and cheer on students.

I took this past year off to spend with my new son, James. He is so much fun, and I am so blessed to be his mother! I absolutely LOVE being a mom after waiting for so long so become one! I look forward to having each of your sons and daughters in class this year. I enjoy keeping parents informed, so feel free to call me during 5th period, which is my planning. However, e-mail is the best way to contact me. Tutoring is available on Thursdays until 5:00 and/or by appointment. Please make every effort to encourage your son or daughter to attend when grades start slipping. There will be after school tutorial buses that will run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Tutoring is not available in the mornings. Let´s have a GREAT year! Thanks in advance for your support and encouragement.

Welcome in Spanish with country flags around it
