The Jesse Wharton Aces Program invites parents to choose the district's After-School Care Enrichment Services (ACES) program for quality, affordable and convenient after-school care. Students in kindergarten through fifth grade can be enrolled in ACES at any time during the school year. ACES provides a balance of academic, enrichment and recreational after-school activities. The program expands children's experiences, extends their learning and provides warm and caring support. In ACES, students pursue academic excellence as they work on homework, engage in literacy- rich activities, review and practice math concepts , and take part in activities that support their success in school and in life.
The ACES program addresses the needs of the whole child, helps develop well-rounded students, increases character-development opportunities for students, and focuses on the social and emotional well- being of children. ACES is offered every day that school is in session for students. The program begins when school ends and operates until p.m. On some teacher workdays, designated as ACES All-Days,the program operates from a.m. until p.m. On All-Days, students enjoy field trips or participate in on-site activities. On Early Dismissal Days, ACES operates from the early dismissal time until 6 p.m. Nearly all elementary schools have an ACES program.
Students attending an elementary school without a program may attend a cluster-site ACES program at a near-by, designated elementary school. Information can be obtained from the student's school or the district's ACES Programs office. Parents may come to the school weekdays during the school year between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. to complete and submit their ACES enrollment application and $15 non-refundable enrollment fee and non-refundable $50 deposit fee and $50 weekly fee to the ACES Site Coordinator. The enrollment fee and deposit fee is waived for students who have a childcare voucher from DSS or another agency.
ACES programs are licensed by the North Carolina Division of Child Development and Early Education(NC-DCDEE) and can accept subsidy payments from agencies such as the Department of Social Services (DSS) and adoption services. To receive more information regarding enrolling your child in ACES, please contact the ACES site coordinator at your child's school.
