My name is Steve Tapley.  I am originally from Holton, KS, a small farming community near Topeka and Kansas City. 

I attended Emporia State University where I played linebacker for the Hornets and majored in Social Science Education.  I transferred to Bethany College in Lindsborg, KS to finish my BA in History and Political Science while serving as an Assistant Football Coach.  The small college experience gave great insight to the importance of relationships in education.

My approach to teaching is to focus on thinking and learning.  I love wrong answers, as it gives us a chance to replace them with correct answers.  A blank canvas is always the hardest to paint.  If students come to class with a Growth Mindset, meaning they believe they have the ability to become better at a skill or activity, then they will undoubtedly be successful in the classroom.  We never say "I can't", we say "I can't yet" when we face obstacles. 

Outside of school I spend my time with my two boys.  I am a sports fan, namely the KC Royals, KC Chiefs, and KU Jayhawks.
