Leslie Kinard is the principal and lead learner of Ferndale Middle School in High Point, NC. She has worked with school leaders, teachers, and students at all levels (K-12). She began her career as a high school English teacher and has enjoyed working with beginning teacher as an Induction and Success Coach; working with teachers and students as a literacy coach; serving as an assistant principal and facilitating teacher effectiveness as a Mission Possible specialist. She also served as principal of Thomasville High School in Thomasville, NC. Her work as leader, blogger, and advocate have been rewarding experiences where she has been able to promote positive changes and influence student achievement.
Mrs. Kinard is a graduate of Winston-Salem State University where she was a member of the Army ROTC Program and majored in English minoring in Military Science. Mrs. Kinard received her Masters of Arts, Post Masters Certificate and Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
In 2015, Mrs. Kinard was recognized as a North Carolina Phi Delta Kappa (NCPDK) Emerging Leader, and was elected president of the organization in 2017. She has also most recently selected as an ASCD Emerging Leader. She is passionate about education and continues to lead professional development for educators across the nation. Her personal leadership vision is “to prepare today’s student for tomorrow’s future.” Mrs. Kinard is excited to collaborate with the school, community, parents and students of Ferndale Middle to ensure that all students strive for excellence.
