Mr. Hartzell teaches AP English Language and Composition as well as English III Honors. Mr. Hartzell received his BA in English from Eastern Illinois Univeristy and holds an MA in English (with a concentration in Creative Writing) from East Carolina University as well as having completed his teacher training with the NC Teach program through North Carolina State University. He started his career in teaching as a full-time lecturer in the English Department with the FYWP (First Year Writing Program) at North Carolina State University. After earning his secondary education teaching license, Mr. Hartzell taught Literature at Thales Academy in Rolesville, North Carolina and most recently he taught as an English teacher at the American Hebrew Academy in Greensboro, North Carolina. Mr. Hartzell strongly believes in the study of Literature and the English Language as a pathway to developing both empathy and critical thinking skills. Mr. Hartzell enjoys reading as well as writing both poetry and prose; playing disc golf; collecting comic books; cheering on the Chicago Cubs; and amateurishly playing any instrument in the low brass family. Mr. Hartzell loves living in Greensboro with his family.
