Greetings,

I am Ms. Wideman, School Counselor at Sedgefield Elementary School. I hold the following certifications: NCC, (National Board-Certified Counselor), LPC-A (License Professional Counselor Associate), LPE (Licensed Professional Educator), all certifications are in the state of North Carolina. I have a record of membership with the American Counselors Association, and I serve as the Pre-Conference Institute Coordinator on the conference committee of the North Carolina School Counselor’s Association (NCSCA). I have served as an Emerging Leader on the NCSCA Executive Board.

I hold an M.S. in School Counseling from North Carolina Agriculture and Technical State University. I successfully completed the PRAXIS exam for Professional School Counselors and the National Counselors Exam, all in the state of North Carolina. I have over 15 years of experience as a School Counselor and over 25 years of service with Guilford County Schools. My clientele consists of school age youth. My theoretical orientation is Person-Centered and Choice Theory. It is my philosophy that all children can learn, demonstrate, and reach expectations. As an Educator/Counselor, I recognize that each child has a unique learning style and rate at which they are capable of absorbing new concepts and comprehending expectations. My school counseling approach is to disclose all information in small cohesive segments while taking into consideration each child’s uniqueness.

The upcoming events consist of the weekly counseling presentations. Each week Ms. Wideman will upload to her CANVAS page and send to classroom teachers, a school counseling presentation that focuses on the GCS character traits. All students are encouraged to interact with the school counselor via email, widemaa@gcsnc.com.
