American History 1
Mrs. McCoin
  • Hello! My name is Mrs. McCoin, and I teach American history here at the great Ben L. Smith High School. To all of my students during the 2020-2021 school year, I look forward to getting to know you all. Together, we will uncover the secrets of history, to examine what really happened in the past, and why all of that is important for us here in the present day.

You see, the stories of our past, and all the ways these stories are told to us, have shaped who we are and what we think of ourselves and others. But what if I told you that some of these stories aren't as "true" as you always thought they were? How do we find out those truths, how do we dig underneath the surface of popular knowledge, how do we come to understand the details of the past, until we finally see a fuller, clearer view of history? The answers won't be as clear and simple as you might hope, but that can be an exciting part of uncovering the past! That is what historians do, and that is what you will get to practice doing in our learning times together.

Please check out the other information and resources available here on my classroom page. Remember that all of your courses will be hosted in Canvas for at least the first 9 weeks, so academic information will be posted there. Parents & guardians are welcome to join their student's Canvas course as observers - just let me know if you are interested in that option.

I look forward to working together this semester!
