Dr. Darrell Harris – Principal
Greetings Academy at Smith families and community,
I am extremely excited about the privilege to serve the students, staff, parents, and community of the Academy at Smith. I believe that effective leadership is collaborative and transparent in nature. It builds the capacity of others and celebrates their accomplishments, while acknowledging shortcomings and opportunities for growth. At the Academy at Smith, students will continue to remain the most important people that we serve and all decision making processes will operate with students’ best interest in mind. This is all a part of our efforts to promote academic growth and character development, as we prepare our students for the next chapter of their academic futures.
My Education: I am a graduate of Hampton University where I received a Bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education before moving to Greensboro to obtain a Master’s degree in Adaptive Physical Education from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. I then moved on to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro as a member of the 2nd cohort of the Piedmont Triad Leadership Academy to obtain my school administration license. Finally, in the fall of 2018 I earned my Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership, again from UNC-G.
Just a Little About Me: Besides being a devoted family man; I am an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, have grown a huge interest in the TV show “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives”, and enjoy mentoring young males in the community.
