Update for the Week of 3/6
Good Evening Northern Families!
This is Mrs. Weeks and I’m honored to serve as your principal. Here are your announcements for the week of March 5th:
- On Tuesday our 3rd and 4th grade students will attend the symphony.
- On Wednesday all of our students will participate in a school wide tornado drill.
- On Thursday all of our students will participate in Student Cyber Security assemblies brought to us by the Guilford Sherriff’s Department.
- On Friday students will participate in the book fair preview and at night, we will hold our annual Talent Show.
- Finally on Saturday, for students who signed up, we will have a dance clinic brought to us by the Northern Guilford Middle School Dance Team.
If you haven’t already done so, you can purchase a school yearbook online for $15. (Yearbook Link: https://strawbridge.fotomerchanthv.com/search/YB27306)
As a safety reminder, please remember that if you are not going to use the car rider line during morning drop off, you are required to park in an actual parking spot and walk your child to the crosswalk. Please do not park behind the row of cars as this has potential to cause an accident in our parking lot.
Now some information from our PTA:
Nighthawk Newcomers:
Who is Mrs. Weeks, how did she land at NES, and how does she envision the future at NES? Find out this and more by joining us for a Fireside Chat March 7th at 6pm with our NES Principal, Mrs. Weeks. Our Nighthawk Newcomers committee is proud to host a conversation and Q&A to learn more about her journey in life, in education, and the future of our school.
Staff Appreciation:
The National Social Worker Appreciation Day is March 7th, focusing on a Social Work Breaks Barriers theme, and the PTA will honor our social worker, Mr. Waddell. You can join in the appreciation by thanking him in your own way next week. Mr. Waddell not only works with children who are in crisis, he assists families with resources throughout the county. Truly a valued resource in Guilford County and NES!
Health and Safety:
Internet Safety: Thank you to the families who came to the presentation of The Smart Talk: Internet Safety (by Norton LifeLock), presented by our Guilford County Sheriffs last week. We will host The Smart Talk assembly with our children this week and they will bring home a family challenge. The challenge is an opportunity for parents to watch a video, with your children, and create an agreement for your family usage. Instructions will be on the form sent home and the class with the greatest participation will win a lunch from Chick-fil-a!
Blood Drive: Remember to mark your calendars for the American Red Cross Blood Drive, April 21st. The online sign-up will be shared near the end of March.
Book Committee (Book Fair)
Our Scholastic Book Fair will kick off Friday, March 10th with a student preview and shopping will start on Monday, March 13th. The PTA has some fun events planned, including a Donuts with Dads, sponsored by our Nighthawk Dads, and Family Night. Please look for a letter and attached flyer coming home in your student's book bag with more information. This letter will contain information on how to set up an eWallet for your student and important dates. If you are interested in volunteering at this event, please see the sign up genius link in the email. This is a large Book Fair and all hands available are welcome and needed.

Environmental:
Thank you for joining us last weekend for the first of three spring Clean-Up Days. If you weren’t able to make it, save the date for the next one, March 25th. As we prepare, we are in need of families who own equipment to aerate and seed, trimmers for bushes, and more. Please reach out about these needs or with any questions.
Those are your announcements for the week! Thank you for supporting Northern Elementary, where we imagine extraordinary!
