Greetings Jaguar Family!!

My name is Tonya Stewart and I am very excited to be back at Hairston Middle School for the 2020-2021 school year. This is my 2nd year as an EC Teacher (Exceptional Teacher).  I am a first generation college graduate. I obtained my Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice/Sociology from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC and my Masters of Arts in Human Services with Concentration in Family Life Education from Concordia University in St Paul, MN. I have worked in the Mental Health field for over 18 years. I am the proud mother of three adult children and three grandchildren. I am an active member of The Greensboro Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, cooking, shopping, and hanging out with my friends.

I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is my desire as an educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas. I look forward to meeting with you all and have an amazing school year.
