Why do we need school counselors?
School counselors are educators uniquely trained in child development, learning strategies, self-management and social skills, who understand and promote success for today’s diverse students. They implement a school counseling program to support students through this important developmental period. The program provides education, prevention and intervention activities, which are integrated into all aspects of children’s lives. The program teaches knowledge, attitudes and skills students need to acquire in academic, career and social/emotional development, which serve as the foundation for future success.
Meet Your Counselor
I had the pleasure of working with tons of parents last year and I look forward to meeting all parents this year! I love it here at AJE and want to support the families in any way I can. A little bit about my background: I grew up in and until recently lived in Shelby, NC. I achieved my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and my Master’s degree at Gardner-Webb University in School Counseling. I have over ten years of experience working with children as a one-on-one paraprofessional working with children with autism, a daycare teacher, as well as an early intervention therapist. I provide individual counseling, small group counseling, and classroom guidance lessons on a wide variety of topics for all AJE scholars. This newsletter will be to inform you of all counseling updates and keep you well-versed on our counseling curriculum.
