My name is Michael Graham, STEM Teacher at Oak Ridge Elementary. Most of the kids call me Mr. G.
This is my 4th year at Oak Ridge and begins my 29th year in teaching.
I was born in a little town called Loris, SC (Near Myrtle Beach, SC). I lived there for 10 years. However, most of my life, I was raised in Fayetteville, NC. I currently live in Greensboro with my wife Kim.
What is STEM?
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. This basic definition may lead you to think that STEM is about teaching these subjects separately and in isolation from one another.
Instead, think of STEM as an integrated and interdisciplinary approach to learning. It engages kids in meaningful and collaborative work that mirrors real life. Through the integration of science, technology, engineering, and math, kids learn to look at the world with curiosity, think critically, and apply practical knowledge to solve problems. These are 21st century skills that will serve all kids well in every corner of their lives.
