• Mrs. McLoughlin     Hello, Bessemer Bobcats!  My name is Mrs. McLoughlin and I am the Reading Specialist at Bessemer Elementary.  I work with K-2 classroom teachers to help students needing extra support with reading.  Even though we are starting off the year a little differently than we usually do, I'm excited to be back with you for more teaching and learning. I welcome any questions or comments you may have, so please feel comfortable to reach out to me.

I joined Bessemer in 2019, having moved to North Carolina from New York just a few years before that. I live here in Greensboro with my husband and two dogs, and my son also lives nearby.  When I'm not in school I enjoy spending time with my family and my furry companions.  Would it surprise you that I also love to read?  I truly believe that, "There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate’s loot on Treasure Island". (Walt Disney)

My education includes a Bachelors degree in Economics, a Master's degrees in Reading, and a second Master's degree in English as a Second Language. I am also trained as a Wilson-certified Dyslexia Practitioner, to help learners with specific reading disabilities.  At the time I joined Bessemer I had 14 years teaching experience, and had worked with students of all ages from Kindergarten to adult. I am thrilled to be able to work once again with young learners in Kindergarten through Second Grade, where reading begins.  Let's get off to a great start!
