After 14 years, it is great to be a Viking again! This year marks my 26th year in education and I will be teaching NC Math 1 and Foundations of Math 2. Throughout my career, I have taught 7th and 8th grade math courses including standard math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Common Core Math 1 and II, NC Math 1 and NC Math 2.
Along with my MEd degree from UNCG, I am a National Board Certified teacher in Early Adolescent Mathematics with an added NC licensure in Gifted Education from High Point University. In 2006 I was one of two selected teachers state-wide to represent NC as a participant in the Fulbright Memorial Program which is a 4-week intensive cultural exchange in Japan. I was also Teacher of the Year in 2014 at Kernodle Middle School.
Before I transitioned to Kernodle in 2002, I started teaching at Jamestown Middle School where I met my husband, Dr. Jesse Gassaway, who recently retired from NWMS as an eighth grade math teacher. I taught at KMS for three years, transferred to NWMS as my husband's boys were moving through the school, and then returned back to KMS. This year marks my first year at NWHS and I am thrilled to return to the Vikings family.
As a Boston native, I love the Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics and Patriots! Boston Strong!
