HOOT is an initiative created by our Specialists, designed to enhance the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) of our students.

HOOT stands for “Helping Ourselves and Others Thrive.”

The mission of this initiative is to provide students with opportunities to cultivate skills and develop strategies to become well-rounded individuals who care for themselves and others.

We will have special “HOOT Days” several times this year to learn and practice good character and self-care.  Our “HOOT Days” for the 2021-2022 school year are:

January: Kindness (showing kindness to others)

March: Self-care (finding balance and recharging)

May: Cooperation (working with others to achieve a common goal)

    January: Kindness

We partnered with the school's Service-Learning Committee to support those in our community who need extra assistance.  In addition to lessons incorporating kindness, students had the opportunity to collect donations and pack “Kindness Kits.”   These Kindness Kits were delivered to local organizations to distribute to those in need.  The organizations selected by our Service-Learning committee were: The Interactive Resource Center (IRC), Greensboro Urban Ministries, and NC African Services Coalition (for Afghan Refugees).
