Ms. Walker

Hello!! 

My name is Ms. Walker, and I will be the music teacher again this year at Southern. I had a great year at Southern last year, and I am looking forward to another great year ahead! 

So, who is Ms. Walker? Well, I have been teaching for over thirty years in both public and private Christian schools in two different states. I have been with Guilford County Schools for eight years. I have taught elementary music all of those years. I love teaching and wanted to be a teacher since I was very small. My degree is from West Virginia State University in Music Education K-12. I have a valid teaching license in North Carolina through 2026.I also have an endorsement in AG.

My philosophy of teaching is a borrowed quote. It says, "No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care." I truly teach by that mindset. I want my students to know that they are cared about and in a safe setting when they come to music class so that they can learn, create, and express themselves musically. 

I enjoy watching old movies, relaxing at home, swimming, trips to the Outer Banks, and hosting the major holidays at my place. I sing in my church choir and solo regularly. I enjoy church and my church family. I was married and have two incredible adult children, who mean the world to me. Oh, by the way, the photo is a picture of one of my favorite place on earth that I have visited so far, The Pacific Coast Highway in southern California. Simply beautiful!

Please plan to attend our Winter Music Program on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at 6:00 PM. The 3rd-5th graders will be performing. Please remember that the performance will be held at Southern MIDDLE School because we do not have enough room at Southern Elementary. I hope to see each one of you there!
