• Dear Families,

    • Welcome to First Grade! Here is some information about our classroom that you will need to help make this year a wonderful experience for your child.  I am looking forward to working with your child and having a great year!

    •  Classroom Rules & Expectations:

    1. Follow Directions Quickly (Directions should be followed the first time)

    1. Raise your hand and wait for permission to speak.  Be respectful to the person talking.

    1. Make Smart Choices (Even when no one is watching)

    1. Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat (this helps me keep track of where students are.)

    1. ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST!

    1.

    1. Daily Folders:  Each child will have a green two-pocket folder that we will use for communication between home and school.  We will use this folder for sending home notes, and other information.  We will also send homework and other information in the folder to keep you informed about what is happening in the classroom.  Please check the folder daily and return it to school the following day.  You may send in notes for absences, homework, etc. in this folder.

    1. Specialists:  Please make sure that your child wears tennis shoes and either pants or shorts on PE days. Once the students start checking out library books, please make sure your child returns the book on his/her assigned library day so he/she can check out a new book. Please reinforce with your child the importance of taking care of books from the media center. Listed below are the days that we will attend these classes.

    1.   Monday: Guidance

    2.   Tuesday: Music
    3.   Wednesday: PE
    4.   Thursday:Art
    5.    Friday: Media

Recess:  Please dress appropriately and use equipment safely. We will go outside unless it is raining or below freezing. ðŸ˜Š

    1. Ipads: Ipads stay at school unless given permission by the district to send home due to inclement weather or any other unforseen circumstance. Students are responsible for taking care of their ipad and using it correctly.

    1. Absences:  If your child is absent for any reason during the school year, we need for you to send in a written note dated and signed for the absence.  After 3 days the absence will be unexcused if we have not received a note.

    1. Dismissal: In order to assist me in making sure your child gets home safely and the right way, please send in a note with contact number for you, if your child is going home a different way that day.

    1. Lunch:  Our lunchtime is 10:50-11:15 While we welcome parents to the building and encourage your presence throughout the year, we are asking that you refrain from arranging lunch visits the first week of school to allow us to teach cafeteria expectations and for students to get acclimated to these procedures. After that point, we ask that you please give us the courtesy of advanced notice as much as you possibly can when arranging a time to visit students during lunch.  All lunch visitors will be asked to eat with their child in a designated area of the cafeteria. You must sign in at the front office and be ready to show an ID to get a visitor’s badge. Lunch is free this year to students.

    1. Breakfast:  All students will be given the opportunity to eat breakfast in the classroom. Breakfast is free this year to students.

    1. Water Bottles: Students may bring a refillable water bottle. Please make sure it is labeled with their name.

    1. Change of clothes:  Please keep a change of clothes in your child’s book bag in case of an accident.  Please make sure to adjust the clothing based on the weather outside.

    1. Parent homework:  Please complete any of the paperwork sent home and return it ASAP.

    1. Communication/Website: Please feel free to send me a note, reach out via ClassDojo, or call the school (336-545-2020) if you have any questions or concerns. My e-mail address is koharik@gcsnc.com
