Mrs. Williams

Who Is Mrs. Williams?

Although this is my twentieth year at Southwest, I began teaching in 1992. I taught 4th grade for 12 years and Academically Gifted students for 2 years. I graduated to 5th grade a few years ago! In 1997 I was selected as the Thomasville City Schools Teacher of the Year. I received my undergraduate degree from UNC in 1992 and a graduate degree from UNCG in 2000. In November of 2003 I received my National Board Certification.

Many of my students are shocked to learn that I am also a regular person, just like them. I am married to Mr. Williams, who teaches French at High Point Central. We both obviously value education a lot. We have two daughters – a graduate of UNC-CH and a graduate of NC State. We are a house divided! Both of our daughters went through the Southwest schools.

I don't have a lot of spare time since I'm a teacher and a mom, but when I have a few minutes I love to read. I really enjoy lawyer/spy/suspense novels and have been able to catch up on many books this summer. I like to read children's novels as well. Maniac Magee is my very favorite.

You might run into me at Harris Teeter (yes, teachers have to fix supper too), at a restaurant, or around town. Don't be afraid to come up and say hello. My children always liked seeing their teachers too.
