Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and Character Education
Responsibility. Respect. Kindness. Courage. Integrity. Self-Discipline. Perseverance.
The benefit of strong character cannot be measured by any test. Rather, it's demonstrated during those common instances when our students are given the opportunity to think for themselves. Simply put, character is about making the right choices. And if we can emphasize it from the moment a child begins school, character development can equip students with the tools and motivation necessary to be the change they wish to see in the world.
To provide support across the school district, the Character Development Department was established. The vision of the Character Development Department is for students and employees of GCS to lead and learn with strong character. In the strategic plan, this initiative’s goals include reducing the number of discourteous and non-compliance acts, improving stakeholders’ perception of safety in our schools, and most importantly, providing our students with the tools and motivation necessary to positively impact our world.
