Meet Mrs. Vicky Fowler, AP Brightwood Elementary
I grew up and graduated from high school outside of Lynchburg, Va. I came to Greensboro to attend college and now call it home. I achieved my degree in Physical Education from Greensboro College in 2007. I taught my first year at Southern Middle in Alamance-Burlington County. I joined the Guilford County team in 2008 as a Physical Education teacher at Morehead Elementary.
During my 14 years as a PE teacher, I achieved and renewed my National Boards Certification and purposefully sought opportunities to lead in my profession and within my school. During these years, I hosted student teachers, and mentor teachers, held the chair position for a variety of committees, and presented workshops for my school, GCS PE teachers, and at state and regional conferences. This is how I began to see I had a passion for leadership and the drive to work with a team of professionals who seek to ensure excellence in teaching and learning within schools.
This led me to complete my master’s in administration in 2015 from Appalachian State University. Then, in 2021-23, I was afforded the opportunity to be an Assistant Principal at Reedy Fork Elementary. As an AP, I supported Reedy Fork in various ways, including OneCard contact, Morning Ranger club organizer, tutoring coordinator, co-webmaster, social media/Dojo master, national board support, and PBIS chair.
My all-time favorite aspect of working as an AP is building relationships with staff, students, and parents! I love starting my day by seeing students come off the bus or out of the car excited to start their day and sending them home with a hug, high-five, and “see you tomorrow” at the end of the day. Another aspect I love as an AP is visiting classrooms to observe teachers' teaching and student learning! It’s amazing what our educators do every day for our students! 😊
When not working, I enjoy reading, biking, walking, shopping/thrifting, or playing with my two children, Jack, 8, and Carly, 4 and a half.
I am excited about joining the Brightwood Elementary Team and look forward to meeting and working with you!
