In accordance to GCS policy, please see the listing below for state attendance “excused absence” reasons.  All other absences will be coded “unexcused” due to the state policy. Also, please be reminded that all notes must be submitted within 7 days of the absence or tardy.

The following absences are considered lawful absences according to the NC State Board of Education Attendance rules: 

1. Illness/injury 
2.  Death in family                 
3. Religious observances 
4. Educational opportunity 
5. Medical/Dental Appointment
6. Quarantine
7. Court proceedings
8. Suspension

Letters regarding absences and tardies will be sent out after the student has accumulated 3, 6, and 10 days.  This will include both excused and unexcused as absenteeism is considered any absence away from the building.  If you have any questions, please call our Data Manager, Sharonda Saunders.
