Progress Reports 9.19.2023
Good Evening GCMC Families,
This is your proud principal Mr. Burnette with a few very important announcements.
Today, progress reports were sent out to parents electronically to the email provided during registration. We want to ensure that students and families are getting timely feedback about their academic classroom performance. In addition, mandatory tutoring will begin on Tuesday, September 26th. Students will work with teachers during their lunch to help improve their academic performance prior to the end of the grading period. Teachers will hand out a pass that will specify which day a student would need to participate in tutoring and what criteria qualified them for tutoring.
Parents please help our school by encouraging your student to open up an online store for our fundraiser. We currently have only half of our students who have created an account for themselves and shared via email or social media. We would love to reach our financial goal in this fundraiser to help support our students and provide them with incentives and programs throughout the school year.
We want to celebrate our school for being recognized as only one of three high schools in Guilford County to receive a School Report Card rating of an A. In addition we were recognized for having an 100% graduation rate this past school year. Let's keep up the wonderful work.
Yearbooks are currently on sale at jostens.com as well as senior ads are available for purchase until they run out. Please don't miss out on your chance to have a lifelong memory and a page all dedicated to you.
Finally, our EF Tour for Greece in the summer of 2025 will host it's initial interest meeting on Thursday, September 21st in room 309 of the Cowan Bldg. at 6pm. I hope to see you all there as we discuss the wonderful academic opportunity and cultural experience that Greece provides.
As always lead with pride, the pride of a lion. -
Week of 9.11.2023
Good Evening GCMC Families,
This is your proud principal Mr. Burnette with your announcements for the week of September 11th.
As we begin the week, may we all remember the lives of those lost on 9/11, their families, and the life long impact on our nation. It brings me back to the district's mantra, we are BETTER TOGETHER.
On Friday, students were given a packet for our school's first fundraiser. Our school benefits tremendously from this, as we unfortunately do not receive a significant amount of funding due to the nature of our program. We want to encourage you all to share and post the link for your student's store. Our goal is to provide and support our students with as much of a traditional high school experience as possible and any additional funds will help to achieve this outcome.
We are approaching the last weeks of our first quarter. Students have worked hard and must focus on ending the quarter with a bang. Please be sure to communicate with your teachers if you I need of assistance with assignments or course content. Our last progress report prior to report card distribution will go out on September 19th. Attendance is a priority and necessary to your success. Teachers will begin to institute mandatory tutoring for students who have a letter grade below a C.
Please don't forget about our spirit wear that is available on our website for the remainder of the month. As always lead with pride the pride of a lion.

Week of 8.21.2023
Good Evening GCMC Families,
This is your proud principal Mr. Burnette with your weekly announcements. I hope everyone has had a great weekend. As we wrap up the end of August, schools across the district will head back to school. This will have an impact on our students transportation schedules. We look to update that information as soon as its shared with us this week.
Families, Wednesday August 23rd is a teacher workday. Students will not have high school classes on this day, and GSC transportation will not run. However, students who have a college class on Wednesday are still responsible for attending class. If you are unable to get to your Wednesday class you will need to notify your professor immediately and refer to their syllabus regarding attendance expectations.
Students please stop by my office to pick up your school books. We do have one more shipment for books that we are awaiting, but that only effects 2 classes. Everyone else has their books and need to sign them out.
Thursday August 24, we will be holding our FAFSA night. Please come out to gain valuable information regarding your senior's financial college application process. Refreshments will be provided, and we do ask that you RSVP on our school website so we have an accurate number of expected families.
Just a few housekeeping things. We do understand the weather is at it's peak but we ask that students respect the dress code. Students are also asked to bring jackets or dress for their classroom temperatures, avoid bringing blankets to school they are not approved for classrooms.
Thank you for all you and as always lead with pride the pride of a lion.messages/attachments/2b9bdf4ecf024d7e49bd1ca7aa440e37/FAFSA_Parent_Night_2023.pptx

Week of 8.14.2023
Good Evening GCMC Families,
This is your proud principal Mr. Burnette with you weekly announcements. This week marks the beginning of college classes for students. Students please be sure to be on time for you college classes and be sure to introduce yourself to your professors as a middle college student. We will distribute books for all students once we have been shown the course syllabus. Students are responsible for their books for the semester and will return them upon completing their final exam.
If students are experiencing any issues with transportation please inform us in the front office. We will be glad to reach out to help resolve the challenges.
Seniors who are still in need of the MCV vaccination, High Point and Greensboro's Health Departments will host back to school vaccination clinics on Wednesday 4:30-6:30 in High Point and same hours on Friday in Greensboro. September 1st will be the last day of class in which a student is allowed to attend if proof of vaccination is not provided.
We had a tremendous start to the school year, we look forward to students joining clubs, making connections, and building relationships. Please remember to sign up for any counseling needs you have via the QR code provided.
We have a tradition here where I always end my connect Eds with a school motto. It is a mantra to our school mascot, and the type of impact we want our students to have. I leave you with it this evening. Lead with pride, the pride of a lion. Thank you and have a good evening. -
Week of 8.7.2023
Good Evening GCMC Families,
This is your proud principal Mr. Burnette with your weekly announcements. Students please be sure to login your school issued devices to ensure that the canvas software is working on them. As discussed before your Chromebooks will be required for district and state sponsored testing. Personal devices can always be used for class assignments and work.
Parents I want to inform you about Greensboro College's parking/drop-off policy. Chief Gilmore reached out to me on Friday to remind me that parents are not to drop off their students in front of the Cowan Building. They reserve the right to ticket parents for blocking/stopping the flow of traffic on campus. They have it designed to make the immediate right once you turn onto College Dr. The white house which is the admissions office is the lot that you will turn in and make a U-turn to drop your student off and exit.
Students please remember to park in the appropriate area designated for GCMC. Campus police will ticket and tow vehicles without the approved Greensboro College parking sticker.
On Monday August 7th student will receive a permission slip signed by their parent or guardian to approve them to go off campus for lunch. Starting on Wednesday August 9th students without this documentation on file will not be allowed to leave campus during lunch. We have to be responsible for students while they are in our care and this gives permission for students. Appropriate action will be taken if students leave campus without prior approval.
Attached to the email version of this connect ed you will find a digital copy of the student handbook.
Finally, please be sure to get your MCV vaccinations. Seniors who have not turned proof of this shot into the office have until September 1st to turn in proof. After this date students without the vaccination will not be allowed on campus until they have received it and have the supporting documentation.
Thank you and have a great evening.messages/attachments/587a18f28704519a4336756a378ca402/GCMC_23-24_Student_Handbook.docx

We will be on campus at the beginning of the day but have a team building exercise for the school taking place at Breakout Games. Students will need $45 which will cover Thursday and Friday's activities. On Friday students will have a modified day before having lunch catered and continuing to focus on acclimating students to our school's culture and climate. Breakout Games does require that each participant have an electronic waiver signed prior to participation. If you go to breakoutgames.com you will be able to access the electronic waiver. Choose Greensboro as the location and the event details are under my last name, BURNETTE. Please select any of the escape room options as students will be randomly placed in groups upon arrival to Breakout Games.
Open House will be on Tuesday, August 1st from 5pm-630pm. Families will be able to meet staff, pick-up schedules, join the PTA, turn in any missing documentation and pay any field trip fees.
We are extremely excited about the start of our school year and welcoming everyone to the PRIDE. This is going to be an amazing school year all because you've chosen to be here, and be a part of the GCMC Family.
