    Open House will take place on Wednesday, August 23. We will offer 2 floating times that you and your student may come by, get your schedule, visit classes, and meet the Kernodle staff. The times are 11:00 – 1:00 and 3:30 – 6:00 on August 23rd.


    This information is for all rising 7th graders. It is the state law that all 7th graders are required to have the Tdap and MCV vaccines at the start of the school year. If you have already turned in proof of this information in thank you for doing so. If you have not done so, please take the time to schedule an appointment now with your health care provider. Your student must have both vaccines prior to starting school. Appointments can be scheduled with the Guilford County Health Department.     Good evening parents, this is Principal McHam calling from Kernodle Middle, where “Excellence Is An Attitude!

    The Transportation Department spent the summer preparing for buses to hit the road to provide safe, efficient, and reliable transportation this school year. In order to prepare you for your student’s transportation needs we encourage all parents and guardians to claim their PowerSchool Parent Portal account. This will provide essential transportation information for your student and you may access directions on the District’s website under the Transportation Department.    (www.gcsnc.com/Page/17246). You are also encouraged to download the Here Comes the Bus app for real-time tracking.  This will allow you to monitor your child's bus location and estimated arrival time conveniently from your smartphone. The app can be found in the App Store for iPhones or in the Google Play Store for Android users and will go live on August 28. If you have questions or concerns about transportation, please contact our Transportation Call Center at (888) 511-4GCS (4427) or the school. Thank you and have a good evening.

    Good evening parents, this is Principal McHam calling from Kernodle Middle, where Excellence Is An Attitude.

    A few reminders.

    Open House will take place on Wednesday, August 23.  We will offer 2 floating times that you and your student may come by, get their schedule, visit classes, and meet the Kernodle staff.  The times are 11:00 – 1:00 and 3:30 – 6:00 on August 23rd.  Supply lists can be found on the school’s website.

    The first day of school is August 28 and the school hours are 8:00 to 3:20. 

    Another reminder for all rising 7th graders.  North Carolina State law requires that all students entering 7th grade have the Tdap and MCV vaccines prior to the start of school.  If you have already provided this information to the school, thank you for doing so. Proof can also be dropped off at the front office Monday through Thursday from 8:00 to 5:00. 

    If your student is planning to tryout for any fall sports, their physical and concussion information must be uploaded in Dragonfly no later than August 26th.  Dragonfly can be found on our school’s website under “Athletics”.

    Good evening Kernodle parents, this is Principal McHam with some important updates.  

     

    Open House

    We are excited to see everyone at Open House next Wednesday, August 23rd.  The times are floating for all grade levels, so you may come at any time between 11:00 and 1:00 or 3:30 and 6:00.

     

    Students’ schedules were sent out via email today.  The emailed schedules will only have first semester encores listed but the hard copies at Open House will have both semesters listed. I invite you to come out and meet your child’s teachers and receive important information about the upcoming school year as well as join our PTA ($10) and purchase some Kernodle Spirit Wear.  There may be some schedule changes prior to the first day of school to help balance classes as we continue to register students. 

     

    Transportation

    Transportation representatives will be in the cafeteria during each of the floating times should you have any questions.

     

    Immunizations

    If your student is a rising 7th grader and you have not turned in proof of immunizations, the Tdap and the MCV, please do so prior to school starting on August 28th.  You can also bring the proof to Open House or drop it off Monday through Thursday between the hours of 9 and 3.

     

    Food trucks will be available that evening should you like to purchase a snack.

    Good evening parents, this is Principal McHam.

     

    OPEN HOUSE

    We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday for the Open House.  This is a floating event and you may come during the following times: 11 am to 1 pm or 330 pm to 6 pm. 

    SCANNERS

    As a part of increasing the safety and security for students, staff, and the entire KMS community, everyone will have to walk through the Evolve body scanners upon entry into the building, which will be located at the front entrance.  If the scanner pings any specific person, in order to enter KMS, the person's belongings will be searched by KMS staff. This process is in the best interest of the safety of our staff, students, and campus visitors.  You will be able to see how the Evolve scanners work at Open House as well.

    DRAGONFLY

    All physicals and sports information must be uploaded to Dragonfly no later than August 26th.  If your student is returning, please make sure that your Dragonfly account is updated with a current concussion and consent and current medical history.

    Good evening Kernodle Families this is Principal McHam calling with some important information.

    I want to thank my staff, our PTA, and you all for a successful open house.  My hope is that you enjoyed our staggered sessions and were able to get to all of your teachers.

    The Evolv Body Scanners will be at our front entrance and all students and visitors must walk through to enter the building. 

     Evolv Scanners

    • Every person, student & visitors, entering our building will travel through the body scanner.
    • The body scanning system highlights and locates material that is deemed to be in question on our school grounds. 
    • If there is a ping from the body scanner, the administration and staff will locate and identify the item in question.
    • Body scanners are located at the main entrance of our building. 
    • Students will walk through the body scanners starting on day one and then go about their business of learning at KMS. 
    • Please tell and remind students daily that there will be some items that they will need to take out of their bookbags, hand to staff as they enter, and then grab after coming through the scanning station. Items that ping easily and need to be removed from bookbags are magnetic closing eyeglass cases, large spiral notebooks, Chromebooks, or umbrellas. There will be staff that a student would hand these items to, walkthrough, and then be handed the items back.

    In the name of safety, if any student pings and does not adhere to the search of their belongings, they will not be allowed entrance to campus. A parent/guardian will be notified. 

    Sport's Tryouts & Dragonfly

    Tryouts will start on Tuesday and go through Thursday for girls’ volleyball, boys' soccer and football and students must attend all of the days.  All physicals and sports information must be uploaded to Dragonfly no later than August 26th.  No paper copies will be accepted at any of the tryouts.
