    Mrs. Ashley Garcia

    Dear Colfax Community,

It is an honor to introduce myself as the new principal of Colfax Elementary School. I am ecstatic to join such an extraordinary team and I can assure you that I share in this school community’s commitment to providing a world-class education for ALL students.

I am a Greensboro native and proud GCS graduate. I attended Oak Ridge Elementary, Northwest Middle, Northwest High, and Greensboro Middle College my senior year. I am first and foremost a wife and mother. My husband, Rollie, and I have been married 14 years and we have two children. Daniel, age 8, will begin 3rd grade this fall as a Viking and our daughter Ella, age 4, will complete her final year of daycare. I look forward to introducing my family to all of you soon.

The 2021-2022 school year will mark my 15th year in education. My educational experience includes over ten years teaching exclusively in Title I schools, where I taught various grades including Kindergarten, 3rd and 5th. I just completed my fourth year as an assistant principal. The last three years I have been the AP at Millis Road Elementary.

As an administrator, I visit classrooms and interact with our students and stakeholders daily. My bucket is filled when I see our scholars authentically engaged in their own learning and I believe learning should be fun and meaningful for ALL.  As a principal, I am passionate about coaching teachers, increasing their leadership capacity and supporting their professional goals.

My approach is student-centered, collaborative, and data-driven with a focus on growth and equity. Every decision I make is with our students' best interests in mind. I firmly believe that ALL students can achieve at high levels when given equity of access and opportunity in a fun, engaging learning environment and I will be gracefully bold in my mission to ensure this occurs at our school.

Together we can help our Vikings reach their full potential! Please know that I am here to serve you and I heartily welcome your feedback and input throughout the year. Let us always keep our students the primary focus of our work. I look forward to celebrating our collective successes throughout our journey together.

     Ms. Ruthmarie Mitchell

    Hello Viking Family!

My name is Ruthmarie Mitchell and I am proud to be the assistant principal at Colfax Elementary School. I have 22 years of experience, all here in Guilford County.  I spent 14 years at Northeast Guilford High School. While there, I was a Spanish teacher, School Counselor, Graduation Coach, and Assistant Principal.  I later transferred to Smith High School for 2 years and then Jones Elementary and Spanish Emmersion for 5 years prior to coming to Colfax. Most recently, I was one of three Program Administrators for the GCS Twilight Program, in addition to my role as assistant principal.

I am originally from New York, spent many years in Arizona, and have lived in Greensboro for 26 years. I have two amazing children, two awesome bonus sons, and 7 beautiful granddaughters ages  1,3, 4, 11, 14, 16, and 17.

One of the key components to my educational philosophy is that I believe ALL children have the capacity to learn and grow every single year, regardless of their circumstances. The key is to develop, nurture, build relationships and create trust in each individual student and their caregivers. After that, the sky is the limit!

I fully enjoy working with our staff, students, and the families that we serve.  Colfax feels like home!
