Here are a few things to know about the Oak View Media Center:
When is book check out?
Students may check out books during their weekly trip to the media center during their scheduled media specials time. Please check with your classroom teacher for the date and time of your weekly media specials.
How many books may be checked out at one time?
All students may check out up to two books at any time.
When are books returned to the library?
Students may return books to the library at their regularly scheduled media specials visit. If there is a special circumstance, such as a student is leaving the school/district, all library materials and technology can be returned to their classroom teacher.
Our library does not charge fees for overdue books; however, please remember other students may be wanting to borrow the same book. Please be respectful and return books within two weeks after checking them out. You must return your previous checkouts before you can check out any new books in our collection.
Sometimes mistakes do happen! If a student receives an overdue notice and believes the book has already been returned, please contact Mr. Martinez. I normally ask the student to check in his/her desk, cubby, classroom, and at home. I will also check the shelves for the book. Also, be sure to check the date on the overdue notice to make sure it is a current notice.
What if a book is lost or damaged?
If a book is damaged, please send it back to school with a note. Do not try to repair the book on your own, as we have special repair materials in the library to try to fix repairs. If the book can be repaired, it will be returned to the shelf and no fee will be charged. If the book cannot be repaired, a note with the price of the book will be sent home with the student. Please send cash or a check to cover the cost of the damaged book. All checks must be made out to Oak View Elementary School.
If a book is lost, you will receive a notice from the library indicating the cost of the book in order for it to be replaced. Due to school policy, if the book is found later you are not eligible for a refund. I suggest looking for the book in all those special places, such as under the bed, in the closet, on bookshelves at home, etc., before paying for the book. Of course, a brand new exact book may be given in place of the lost book instead of payment. For example, if the lost book is a hardback the book replacement must be hardback.
