I hope that everyone is having a wonderful winter break.  As a reminder, students will return to school on Thursday, January 3rd. Please remember that starting January 3, 2019 all schools will begin instruction five minutes earlier to help make up for the lost time during inclement weather. Schools on the traditional academic calendar will be in session on the three planned make-up days remaining on the 2018-19 calendar: Feb. 18, March 28 and June 10, 2019.

Is your student reading over the break? Did your student accept the GCS Holiday Reading Challenge? The holiday challenge offers incentives for students to read at least 300 minutes over the winter break.

Participating students are to keep logs of their reading and can enter to win an iPad mini, gift cards to Barnes and Noble and students who completed the challenge will also receive one free ticket to the UNCG men’s basketball game against ETSU on February 24th. Minutes must be read and recorded between December 22 and January 2.

You can’t find a book you said? Feel free to take advantage of the thousands of books available for free on the GCS ebookshelf! No excuse! You can still pull this off before January 2nd.

Parents, we are still seeking volunteers for our annual Career Day, which will be held on January 24th.  Please contact our front office at 3363165833 or Ms. Miller at millerr3@gcsnc.com if you are interested in presenting or interviewing students.  We look forward to seeing you there!
