    The following are announcements for the week of November 3rd, 2019:

    Student Led Conferences and Report Card pick-up will be held on this Thursday, November 7th from 3:20-7pm. It is a floating event and Chick Fil-A dinners will be served. There will also be a "Helping your child with math workshop held from 5:30-6, and Learn about our Lead Block student led session from 6:15-6:45. We look forward to seeing you! 

    PTA will  have a spirit wear table during Student Led Conference/Report Card pick up Night on November 7th.  Those will be the last dates that Spirit Wear will be sold until after the winter holiday.  This is necessary to ensure that spirit wear is returned in time for the winter break. Students can also turn in their spirit orders through the office (exact change only) this week.  Spirit wear sales will resume after the Winter Break.

    PTA greatly appreciates all of the support for our Spirit Wear Sales thus far.

    WGHS has rescheduled its Trunk or Treat for Thursday 11/7 from 6-8.  You can stop by after student led conferences to join in the fun.

    The following are announcements for the week of October 27th, 2019:

     

    There will be no school for students on Monday, October 28th- it is a teacher workday.

     

    Interim assessments will be given this week on the following dates:

    Tuesday, October 29th- 8th grade Science

    Wednesday, October 30th- 7th and 8th grade Math and 8th grade Math 1

    Please be sure that your children are at school on time each day.

    Western Guilford HS will have a community “Trunk or Treat” on Thursday, October 31st from 6-8pm.  Food Drink and Music will be there- come out for a great time!

    The following are announcements for the week of October 13th:

     

    PTA will sell Spirit Wear will be sold this Tuesday morning from 7:30-8:30 am.   T-shirts are $10, Long sleeved T's are $15, jackets are $25 and custom hoodies are $25. Custom Hoodies will be delivered at the end of September Thank you for your support of WGMS!

     

    Late buses and Extended Learning will begin this Wednesday, October 16th and will be held each Wednesday and Thursday from 3:15-4:15. Parents must given written permission for students to attend.  Please pick car rider students up on the Lindley side of campus. Please contact your child’s teacher to determine what day they will tutor.  We will also post this information on our website.

     

    WGMS sports this week:

    10/14- Girl’s Soccer/Boy’s Volleyball at home vs. Northwest at 4:45

     

    10/16- Football at home vs. Eastern at 5:00

     

    10/17- Girl’s Soccer/Boy’s Volleyball at home vs. Northeast at 4:45

    Admission to the game is $2 for students, $4 for adults.  Students, remember you must leave campus, then return for the games in order to attend.

     

    To Celebrate- "Socktober", Ms Denny's lead block is leading our Socktober Kindness challenge From now through 10/25, we are collecting new socks that we donate the to Hospitals and/or Homeless Shelters. The Lead Block that gets the most socks will get a SMOD free and leader chips. Join us in our Socktober Challenge this month- we will send out updates for who is in the lead!

     

    Friday, October 18th is a SMOD Free day. Students must have 7 Leaderchips to participate.  Please review the SMOD Free guidelines.  Friday evening is also our PTA dance, which will be held from 6-8pm.  Admission is $5 and concessions will be sold. Parents, please drop off and pick up on the Guilford College side of campus.

    The following are announcements for the week of October 6th:

     

    PTA will have a planning meeting on Monday, October 7th at 6pm.  All are welcome!

     

    There are no athletic events this week.

    Tomorrow, Monday, October 7th,  Girl’s Soccer and Boy’s Volleyball tryouts for eligible students will be held immediately after school. Students have had their eligibility checked last week. No paperwork will be accepted this week. Students must be picked up by 5:00 in the bus parking lot off of Lindley rd.

     

    Wednesday, October 9th is a teacher workday- there will be no school for students.

     

    To Celebrate- "Socktober", Ms Denny's lead block is leading our Socktober Kindness challenge.  Beginning Thursday through 10/25, we are collecting new socks that we donate the to Hospitals and/or Homeless Shelters.

    The following are announcements for the week of September 29th:

     

    Girl’s soccer and boys volleyball eligibility will take place on Thursday Oct. 3 immediately after school. Students must have their up to date physical and concussion form. No paper work will be accepted after Thursday. Try outs will begin on Monday Oct. 7 after school. Please have students picked up by 5:30 in the bus parking lot. 

     

    PTA will sell spirit wear Tuesday October 1st from 7:30-8:30am. T-shirts are $10, Long sleeved T's are $15, jackets are $30 and custom hoodies are $25. Custom Hoodies will be delivered this week.

     

    AG Parent night will be this Thursday, October 3rd, at 6pm.  Please contact Mrs. Sims, counselor, with questions.

     

    Students whose parents join PTA by October 1st will receive an additional SMOD free day on Monday, October 7th. Membership is only $5- we thank you for your support of our students and school community!

    The following are the announcements for the week of 9/23:

    By participating in Start With Hello Week beginning this Monday 9/23, WGMS will join hundreds of schools and youth organizations from across the United States to empower young people to create a culture of inclusion and connectedness! In every school and in every community, there are young people who suffer silently because they feel left out, alone or invisible. Social isolation is a growing epidemic in the United States and within our schools. Start With Hello (SWH) Week raises awareness and educates students and the community through Start With Hello activities. This Monday, our will kick off Start with Hello Week by wearing an all green or mostly green shirt (smod or non smod) and jeans with no holes to kick off our Start with Hello Activities, which will take place during LEAD block. No leaderchips are necessary to participate- show your school spirit and Start with Hello!

    The PTA planning meeting that was scheduled for Monday evening has been cancelled- we will let you know when we can reschedule.

     

    Students who did not take pictures on Fall Picture day will be photographed on Friday, October 25th.  We will send out reminders as the date approaches.

    Students will take home 1st interim progress reports this Wednesday, September 25th. Parents, please sign the report cards so they can return to teachers on Thursday during class our at our Walk the Schedule Night. 

    Walk the Schedule/Open PTA night is an opportunity for parents to learn more about our school, PTA, and visit your child's classes- about 10 minutes in each class. We will begin at 6pm and end at 8pm.

     

    Students whose parents join PTA by October 1st will receive an additional SMOD free day on Monday, October 7th.

    The following are announcements for the week of September 15th, 2019

    On Friday, September 20th we will have our First SMOD free day. Students can participate with 5 Leaderchips.  Please review the SMOD free guidelines which are posted on our website.  Remember that jeans with holes and slides are not permitted. WGMS Spirit hoodies are permitted, however, they will not be distributed until September 30th for students who have ordered them.

    This Friday, September 20th will also be our first PTA dance. The dance will be held from 6-8pm. Students must leave campus afterschool and return to campus for the event. Parents will drop off and pick up on the Guilford College side of campus.  Admission is $5 and concessions are available for purchase.  Come on our and celebrate the beginning of school and support our PTA!

    This week in Sports:

    Football 9/18 (W) V. Northwest at NWMS beginning at 5pm.

    The following are announcements for the week of September 8th, 2019

     

    Parent/Teacher/Student meeting will be held on Monday, .September 9th at 6pm- topic- our Parent Teacher Organization- we look forward to seeing you there!

     

    Fall Pictures will be taken this Friday, September 13th. All students will be photographed in SMOD for the yearbook and for our One Cards. Picture packets will go home with students on Tuesday.

     

    Parents, please encourage your children to pick up breakfast each morning If they are not hungry, they are able to share their breakfast with other students during the day. All students must participate in order for us to continue our CEP free breakfast and lunch.  Thank you for your support of our WGMS family!

     

    Parents, please be sure you are at  buses at least 10 minutes before the scheduled stop. Some buses may be earlier as beginning of year routes may be adjusted this week.

     

    Parents, we appreciate your patience with the longer car rider drop off and pick up lines. Students may go straight to the atrium until 7:35 until the bell rings.  The late bell rings at 8:05, at that time, students must go to the office for a last pass.  Please be reminded that dismissal time is 3:05pm. Thank you for following the directions of our car rider staff to ensure that your child is dismissed quickly and safely. Please encourage your child to learn their pick up number and pay attention to the pick up screen and the staff who are calling their names. We recognize that the construction on Guilford College can be challenging, however, please do not drop off student in the parking lot or cut in front of other parents. You may park in the lot to walk your student into the building. Do not enter or park cars on the Lindley Rd. Side of campus between 2:45 and 3:30, this entrance is for buses only. Also, please note that students who are picked up after 3:25 pm will need to be picked up in the front office, and may need to provide proof of residency as necessary. Thank you for your cooperation!

     

    Tuesday our football team will have a Practice scrimmage against Southern at home at 4:45. There will be a parent meeting immediately following the scrimmage in the main gym. Monday soccer and volleyball will play at Northeast at 4:45. Thursday soccer and volleyball will play Kiser here at WGMS at 4:45. Admission is $4 for adults and $2 for students.

     

    This week, we will begin our Leader in Me LEAD block which will occur each day from 9:17-9:45, Students will learn the 7 habits of highly effective teams, goal set and receive leadership and character development opportunities.  This is a pass/fail subject- please have your child share what they learn with you!  Parents will receive more information about Leader in Me and all of their classes at our Upcoming Walk the schedule night on September 26th- save the date!

    The following are announcements for the week of September 1st, 2019

    There will be no school on Monday, September 2nd in observance of the Labor Day Holiday.

    As a reminder for car rider parents, please do not drop students in the parking lot- please follow the car rider drop off line or park and walk your student into the building. Also, there are no car rider drop offs on the Lindley Rd. Side from 7:30-8:15- this is a bus entrance. Afternoon pick up, please remind your child to learn their number and watch for their name to be called to come outside quickly. Please see a staff member on duty to receive a yellow hang tag and pick up number.

    WGMS Planners will be for sale beginning Tuesday, September 3rd for $5.

    WGMS Spirit wear will be available for purchase each Tuesday morning from 7:30-8:30 am.  WGMS T-shirts are $10 (onsite and custom).  Long Sleeved T's are $15, WGMS Custom Hoodies are $25, and WGMS Fleece jackets are $25.  WGMS Spirit wear can be worn every day- show your spirit and support our school!

    Our first home Soccer Game will be held this Tuesday, September 3rd at 4:45pm V.  Northern MS.  Entry is $2 for students and $4 for adults- Come out and support our Tigers.  As a reminder, students must leave campus and return for the game at game time.

    On Monday September 9th at 6pm, there will be a very important meeting at for parents, teachers and community members to discuss our membership in our parent/teacher organization.  All are encouraged to attend. 

    As a reminder, State law requires rising seventh graders to have up to date TDAP and MCV immunizations.  Without up-to-date vaccinations, students can be suspended from school. All 7th graders, please turn in your immunization to the office asap.

    The following are announcements for the week of August 25th, 2019:

    The first day of school for students is Monday, August 26th-we are looking forward to welcoming our Tiger Leaders to a great school year!  Students can enter the building at 7:45am and classes begin at 8:05. As a reminder, all students receive free breakfast and lunch. All students will be guided to pick up their breakfast before class- when they enter campus- we are looking forward to 100% participation daily so we can keep this program for our students!  Parents, please be prepared to show picture id to enter the building on Monday and every day.  Students, remember to bring your schedule with you to school tomorrow!  if you do not have a schedule and you don't know your homeroom teacher, you will report to the media center after receiving your breakfast.

     

    Parents, to determine your child's bus stop:

    • Go to www.gcsnc.com
    • Click the Departments tab
    • Click Transportation
    • In the bottom right corner of the Transportation page under “Site Shortcuts” click “Find your bus stop"
      • Select "Guilford Middle" (not Western Guilford Middle)
      • Select morning or afternoon route

    Parents, remember that car rider lines may be longer on the first few days of school- thank you for your patience.  Please note that for afternoon pick up, parents will receive a hang tag to write their child's name. Parents will also be assigned a number for their child for pick up this week.  Please be sure the hang tag is visible each afternoon and your child will be called outside.  Please follow the directions of all staff on duty.
