    The following are announcements for the week of September 15th, 2019

    On Friday, September 20th we will have our First SMOD free day. Students can participate with 5 Leaderchips.  Please review the SMOD free guidelines which are posted on our website.  Remember that jeans with holes and slides are not permitted. WGMS Spirit hoodies are permitted, however, they will not be distributed until September 30th for students who have ordered them.

    PTA will sell spirit wear each Tuesday morning from 7:30-8:30am.  T-shirts are $10, Long sleeved T's are $15, jackets are $25 and custom hoodies are $25.  Thank you for your support of WGMS!

    This Friday, September 20th will also be our first PTA dance. The dance will be held from 6-8pm. Students must leave campus afterschool and return to campus for the event. Parents will drop off and pick up on the Guilford College side of campus.  Admission is $5 and concessions are available for purchase.  Come on our and celebrate the beginning of school and support our PTA!

    Students whose parents join PTA by October 1st will receive an additional SMOD free day on Monday, October 7th.

    This week in Sports:

    Football 9/18 (W) V. Northwest at NWMS beginning at 5pm.

    Boys Soccer and Girls Volleyball- 9/19 (TH) V. Eastern at WGMS beginning at 4:45pm. Admission is $4 for adults and $2 for students.  Come out and support our Tigers!

    The following are announcements for the week of September 8th, 2019

     

    Parent/Teacher/Student meeting will be held on Monday, .September 9th at 6pm- topic- our Parent Teacher Organization- we look forward to seeing you there!

     

    Fall Pictures will be taken this Friday, September 13th. All students will be photographed in SMOD for the yearbook and for our One Cards. Picture packets will go home with students on Tuesday.

     

    Parents, please encourage your children to pick up breakfast each morning If they are not hungry, they are able to share their breakfast with other students during the day. All students must participate in order for us to continue our CEP free breakfast and lunch.  Thank you for your support of our WGMS family!

     

    Parents, please be sure you are at  buses at least 10 minutes before the scheduled stop. Some buses may be earlier as beginning of year routes may be adjusted this week.

     

    Parents, we appreciate your patience with the longer car rider drop off and pick up lines. Students may go straight to the atrium until 7:35 until the bell rings.  The late bell rings at 8:05, at that time, students must go to the office for a last pass.  Please be reminded that dismissal time is 3:05pm. Thank you for following the directions of our car rider staff to ensure that your child is dismissed quickly and safely. Please encourage your child to learn their pick up number and pay attention to the pick up screen and the staff who are calling their names. We recognize that the construction on Guilford College can be challenging, however, please do not drop off student in the parking lot or cut in front of other parents. You may park in the lot to walk your student into the building. Do not enter or park cars on the Lindley Rd. Side of campus between 2:45 and 3:30, this entrance is for buses only. Also, please note that students who are picked up after 3:25 pm will need to be picked up in the front office, and may need to provide proof of residency as necessary. Thank you for your cooperation!

     

    Tuesday our football team will have a Practice scrimmage against Southern at home at 4:45. There will be a parent meeting immediately following the scrimmage in the main gym. Monday soccer and volleyball will play at Northeast at 4:45. Thursday soccer and volleyball will play Kiser here at WGMS at 4:45. Admission is $4 for adults and $2 for students.

     

    This week, we will begin our Leader in Me LEAD block which will occur each day from 9:17-9:45, Students will learn the 7 habits of highly effective teams, goal set and receive leadership and character development opportunities.  This is a pass/fail subject- please have your child share what they learn with you!  Parents will receive more information about Leader in Me and all of their classes at our Upcoming Walk the schedule night on September 26th- save the date!

    The following are announcements for the week of September 1st, 2019

    There will be no school on Monday, September 2nd in observance of the Labor Day Holiday.

    As a reminder for car rider parents, please do not drop students in the parking lot- please follow the car rider drop off line or park and walk your student into the building. Also, there are no car rider drop offs on the Lindley Rd. Side from 7:30-8:15- this is a bus entrance. Afternoon pick up, please remind your child to learn their number and watch for their name to be called to come outside quickly. Please see a staff member on duty to receive a yellow hang tag and pick up number.

    WGMS Planners will be for sale beginning Tuesday, September 3rd for $5.

    WGMS Spirit wear will be available for purchase each Tuesday morning from 7:30-8:30 am.  WGMS T-shirts are $10 (onsite and custom).  Long Sleeved T's are $15, WGMS Custom Hoodies are $25, and WGMS Fleece jackets are $25.  WGMS Spirit wear can be worn every day- show your spirit and support our school!

    Our first home Soccer Game will be held this Tuesday, September 3rd at 4:45pm V.  Northern MS.  Entry is $2 for students and $4 for adults- Come out and support our Tigers.  As a reminder, students must leave campus and return for the game at game time.

    On Monday September 9th at 6pm, there will be a very important meeting at for parents, teachers and community members to discuss our membership in our parent/teacher organization.  All are encouraged to attend. 

    As a reminder, State law requires rising seventh graders to have up to date TDAP and MCV immunizations.  Without up-to-date vaccinations, students can be suspended from school. All 7th graders, please turn in your immunization to the office asap.

    The following are announcements for the week of August 25th, 2019:

    The first day of school for students is Monday, August 26th-we are looking forward to welcoming our Tiger Leaders to a great school year!  Students can enter the building at 7:45am and classes begin at 8:05. As a reminder, all students receive free breakfast and lunch. All students will be guided to pick up their breakfast before class- when they enter campus- we are looking forward to 100% participation daily so we can keep this program for our students!  Parents, please be prepared to show picture id to enter the building on Monday and every day.  Students, remember to bring your schedule with you to school tomorrow!  if you do not have a schedule and you don't know your homeroom teacher, you will report to the media center after receiving your breakfast.

     

    Parents, to determine your child's bus stop:

    • Go to www.gcsnc.com
    • Click the Departments tab
    • Click Transportation
    • In the bottom right corner of the Transportation page under “Site Shortcuts” click “Find your bus stop"
      • Select "Guilford Middle" (not Western Guilford Middle)
      • Select morning or afternoon route

    Parents, remember that car rider lines may be longer on the first few days of school- thank you for your patience.  Please note that for afternoon pick up, parents will receive a hang tag to write their child's name. Parents will also be assigned a number for their child for pick up this week.  Please be sure the hang tag is visible each afternoon and your child will be called outside.  Please follow the directions of all staff on duty.

    Good evening, Tiger Families, The following are announcements for the week of August 18th.

    This week begins our regular 5 day workweek. The office will be open from 7-4 Monday-Friday.

     

    6th graders who missed 6th grade start up can stop by during business hours to pick up a copy of their schedules.

     

    7th and 8th grade Open House will be held on Tuesday, August 20th from 5-7 PM. 7th grade and 8th grade students  schedules and supply lists were mailed this week-please bring with them to Open House.  This is a floating event.

     

    Supply lists can also be found on the WGMS website for your convenience.

    State law requires rising seventh graders to have up to date TDAP and MCV immunizations.

    Without up-to-date vaccinations, students can be suspended from school. To help everyone have the access they need GCS is partnering with the Guilford County Health Department to offer two mobile vaccination clinics for rising seventh graders who have not had their TDAP and MCV immunizations.

     

    The second clinic will be Saturday, August 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at High Point Central High. Please be prepared to show proof of insurance. The district is partnering with local groups to provide free snacks, produce and school supplies.

    Good evening Tiger Parents!

    We hope you are enjoying your summer break- and we look forward to welcoming you back to WGMS soon!

    Our PTSO Planning team will meet tomorrow (Monday) evening 8/12 at 6pm in the media center. All parents are invited to come out to plan for a great school year for our students, teachers and families.

    This week, our 6th graders are invited to their Sixth grade start up Orientation on Thursday, August 15th. Families can choose to attend from 10-12 or from 5-7 pm.  Please be sure to enter campus on the Guilford College side- you may turn in at the light on Guida Dr. and park in the lot as directed. 6th grade students will receive letters inviting them to the Start Up Orientation and supply lists this week, and 6th graders will receive their schedules at Start Up on Thursday during their orientation at 10am or 5pm.

    7th and 8th grade Open House will be held on Tuesday, August 20th from 5-7 PM. 7th grade and 8th grade students will receive their schedules and supply lists in the mail this week to bring with them to Open House.

    The following are announcements for the week of June 9th 2019

     

    Monday, June 10th is our last day of school!  Tomorrow is a regular full school day- Please remember that we must have a note to release students to an adult other than a parent if you wish to pick up your child early.

     

    Tomorrow will be a SMOD free day- no leaderships will be necessary.  Any student who turns in gently used, clean SMOD for our 2019-20 SMOD closet will receive a ticket for a drawing.

     

    Tomorrow, our PTSO will sponsor our end of year celebration during encore classes.  In order to be eligible to participate, students must have no behavior infractions during the 4th nine weeks, and have no pending library or cafeteria fees.  Please check with Ms. Denny in the media center, Ms. Walz to pay fee cafeteria, and Coach Sexton to pay fundraiser chocolate balances at school tomorrow. 

     

     

    Yearbooks are on sale, and are $30- first come first serve! This is a great way to remember a fantastic school year- there is a limited supply- first come, first serve! Please see Ms. McNaught to purchase yours today!

     

     

    Students who are to be included in the EOG retest June 11-14 received notices on Friday. If they were not at school on Friday, their notices were included in the US mail.  We also sent a separate connect ed to students who are attending and who will not be attending yesterday. For students who will be attending and riding the bus, the bus routes have been posted on the WGMS website. Only students who receive a notice are to attend school June 11-14 from 8:30-2Pm.  Please contact the office with questions.

     

     

     

    Report cards and grade placements for the 2019-20 year will be mailed out by no later than the last week of June. Placements will be based on students' academic portfolio during the 2018-19 school year, which includes EOG scores, grades and other assessment results.

    The following are announcements for the week of June 2nd:

     

    Thank you to our PTSO for a wonderful 8th grade dance on Friday evening. In spite of the crazy weather our students had a fantastic time!

     

    EOG testing will continue on Monday, June 3rd and Tuesday, June 4th- students will take the NCFE in Science and SS. Please be sure students are at school on time each day as we prepare for testing, and please do not pick students up early unless it is an absolute emergency. Also be reminded that students cannot wear slides, pajamas, or bring blankets or stuffed animals to school.  Cell phones on testing days are a testing misadministration and students who have phone are subject to serious consequences. Thank you for helping our students be successful during testing!

     

    We are in need of proctors for testing on Monday and Tuesday. If you are 18 and available on any of the testing dates, please contact Mrs. Draper in the front office and or be at school by 7:45 to help.

     

    Letters with EOG Reading and 8th grade science results and invitations for summer enrichment retest will go home on Monday June 3rd. All students will participate in enrichment groups through June 10th.  Selected students will participate in  Enrichment and Retesting Tuesday June 11th through Friday, June 14th.  Students who are retesting June 11-14 must return their parent permission slips to school by Wednesday, June 5th so we can arrange transportation. 

     

    There are no longer late buses on Wednesdays and Thursdays- all students will be go home on regular buses through the end of the school year.

     

    We will send home permission slips for students who are participating in the a special movie on the afternoon of June 6th for students who have met their Wildly Important Goals this year- students will vote to view Captain America or Black Panther on Thursday, June 6th.  If you do not want your child to participate, please return the permission slip that will go home. Otherwise, students will view the movie on Thursday.

     

    On June 7th, we invite you to attend our Awards Ceremonies by grade level:

    8th- 8:30

    7th-10:15

    6th -12:30

     

    Please be sure you have your NC Driver’s license or ID with you if you wish to check out students early. We will check students out prior to the ceremonies.  If you wish for someone different to check out your child, please bring a note- we cannot accept permission over the phone.

     

    We want everyone to enjoy the End of Year celebrations on June 10th.   To be sure that your student can participate check to see if:

     

    •         All cafeteria charges are cleared?

    •         All Media Center books have been turned in?

    •         All Candy money ($60 per box sold) turned in?

    •         All athletic uniforms turned in?

    •         All tablets turned in?

     

    Remember, if your student has outstanding fees or has not returned books or tablets he/she will not be able to participate in the end of year celebrations.

     

    The PTSO will host our End of Year PTSO Celebration on Monday, June 10, which is the last day of school.  The Celebration will be held during Encore times.  This is an event for the students to play games, sign yearbooks and enjoy treats.  Contact the WGMS PTSO if you wish to help or chaperone.

    Good evening, WGMS families,

     

    School will be closed on Monday, May 27th in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. School will reopen on Tuesday, May 28th.

     

    EOG testing will begin on Wednesday, May 29th through Tuesday, June 4th. Please be sure students are at school on time each day as we prepare for testing, and please do not pick students up early unless it is an absolute emergency- thank you for helping our students be successful during testing!

     

    We are in need of proctors for testing. If you are 18 and available on any of the testing dates, please contact Mrs. Draper in the front office.

     

    Please note that selected students may be invited to retest ELA and 8th grade science based on the results of their first test administration.  We will notify students who will be invited to retest by Tuesday, June 4th. Reteaching and retesting for selected students will take place June 5th  through Friday, June 14th

    Our 6th and 7th grade Orchestra, Chorus and Band Spring Concert will be held on Tuesday, May 21st.  8th grade Orchestra, Chorus and Band Spring Concert  will be held on Thursday, May 23rd.  Call time for music students is 5:45 and both concerts will begin at 6:30pm.  We look forward to seeing you!

    Our May/June newsletter is now released- paper copies will be sent to parents who requested them last week, or you can check our website. If you would like a paper copy, please contact the office.

     

    EOG testing will begin on Wednesday, May 29th through Tuesday, June 4th. Important letters about EOG testing and Math Score release will be sent home with students on Tuesday- please look for that information. Please be sure students are at time each day as we prepare for testing, and please do not pick students up early unless it is an absolute emergency. We are in need of proctors for testing.
