    The following are announcements for the week of December 2nd, 2018:

     

    There will be no late buses, tutoring or study hall on Wednesday, December 5th. Late buses, Tutoring and Study Hall will resume on Thursday, December 6th

     

    Our first home athletic events will be held this Thursday, December 6th. BB will be held in the main gym beginning at 4:45pm- girls will play first.  Wrestling will be held in the auxiliary gym beginning at 5pm.  Admission for all athletic events is $4 for adults and $2 for students.  Students who stay after for clubs, study hall or tutoring may attend the game after tutoring is over, however, all other students must leave campus and return for the events at 4:45.

    Concessions will be available for purchase. Please help us to keep our building clean by depositing all trash into the proper receptacle.

    All guests who are attending the game can enter the building on the Guilford College Road entrance in the car riders door (under the canopy).

     

    After the game, make your way to Barnes and Noble in Friendly Center to pick up a great book for a gift or yourself!  WGMS Barnes and Noble day is Thursday, December 6th – all day long!   WGMS will receive a % of the profit for every purchase that date. Purchases can also be made online. We are seeking volunteers to help wrap gifts that day-proceeds will go to WGMS.  please sign up on our  December Volunteer Sign-up soon- we look forward to seeing you there!

     

    Parents, please note that the late bus drop offs should occur on our about 5:30pm. Any questions about late buses can be directed to the transportation department at 3363165810.

     

    Mark your calendars! Tuesday,  December 11th is our WGMS Chorus Concert, Thursday, December 13th is our Band Concert, and Tuesday, December 18th is our Orchestra Concert.  All events will be held in the Multipurpose room t 6:30 pm and all are invited to hear our talented WGMS musicians! Please enter through the Car Rider entrance.

     

    Last week, we sent home invitations to our 4th Annual Career Day event with all students to share with their families and community . The event will be held on Thursday January 24th from 12-3pm, and it is our goal to have all volunteers confirmed  December 21st.  If you are available to lead a session, interview an 8th grader, or volunteer for the day, or if you know someone who would enjoy participating, please return the paper copy or download the letter on our WGMS website and return to Ms. Rosalyn Miller at millerr3@gcsnc.com. Thank you for your support of our students!

    The following are announcements for the week of November 25th:

    I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday and is ready to return to school on Monday.

    Gold cards for 2nd quarter will be distributed to students on Monday, November 20th to students who have a C average or above, no discipline infractions and no more than 2 unexcused absences during the first nine weeks. Students must maintain no discipline infractions during the 2nd nine weeks to maintain their gold card status, and must have their lanyards on to use their privileges which include open seating at lunch, front of the line passes, and jeans each Friday.   Congratulations to these students!

    The Leadership/Lighthouse team will meet this Tuesday, November 27th at 4:15 pm.  All are welcome to attend!

    The 4th Annual WGMS Career Fair is a wonderful day for our community so share professional skills and interests with 6-8 students as well as conduct mock interviews with our 8th grade students to help prepare them to enter the job market. We are looking forward to our parents and community members joining us on January 24th from 12-3 to support our Tigers with their future careers.  if you are interested in participating, please download the Career Day invitation on our WGMS Website and return the second page to Ms. Miller at WGMS.  If you have questions, please contact us at 3363165833.  Letters will be sent home with students this Tuesday.  Please spread the word- thank you for your support in advance!

    PTA Spirit Night at Spare Time will be this Thursday 11/29/18 from 6-10pm– one game of laser tag and $5 towards arcade for $10.  PTA will earn $2 for each admission- come out and support our students and staff!

    The following are announcements for the week of November 11th, 2018:

     

    There will be no school on Monday, November 12th in observance of the Veterans Day Holiday.  Be sure to thank a veteran for their service to our country!  

     

    Student Led Conferences will be held on November 13th from 3:20-7pm. This is a floating event- Students will have an opportunity to pick up report cards, share their progress this quarter with parents, as well as join us for a chick fila meal.  We will host a session on Parent Assist for parents to have access to their students grades and attendance on their phones at 5:30pm.  We will also host a Bullying 101 session for parents at 6pm. Spirit Wear will be available from PTA- we look forward to seeing you there!

     

    Fall pictures will be held on Tuesday November 13th.  All students will be photographed in SMOD, and students who wish to purchase must have their package completed and payment ready at the time that pictures are taken.  Please contact the office if you have questions.

     

    Friday, November 16th is a SMOD free day- students can participate for 7 LEADERCHIPS. 

     

    There will be a PTA dance on Friday, November 16th from 6-8pm.  Admission is $5 and concessions will be sold.

    The following are announcements for the week of November 4th

     

    We hope everyone remembered to set their clocks back one hour this weekend.

     

    RSVP's for Student Led Conferences will go home with students this week. Student Led Conferences will be held on November 13th from 3:20-7pm. Students will have an opportunity to pick up report cards, share their progress this quarter with parents, as well as join us for a chick fila meal.  Spirit Wear will also be available from PTA. 

     

    There will be no school on Monday, November 12th in honor of Veteran's Day.

     

    Fall pictures will be held on November 13th.  All students will be photographed, and students who wish to purchase must have their package completed and payment ready at the time that pictures are taken.  Forms will go home with students this week.  Please contact the office if you have questions.

     

    The November Newsletter will be posted on our website and Social Media on Monday. If would like a hard copy, please stand by to respond to the survey.

    The following are announcements for the week of October 28th:

     

    PTA will sell Boo Grams on October 29-31 until 8:05 each morning for $1.

     

    Book-A Ween will be held on Wednesday, October 31st- students must return the permission slip to homeroom teachers prior to participating. Remember,

    • Costume is based on any book character
    • No Jeans (unless you can justify the use in your written explanation.)
    • No masks or weapons
    • No spandex or form-fitting fabric
    • No inappropriate or profane costumes

    WGMS Administrative Staff reserves the right to request that a student change back into SMOD if necessary.

     

    Thursday, November 1st will be a regular school day to make up for the inclement weather on September 14th. It is the end of the first nine weeks, so be sure to turn in missing assignments asap.

     

    Friday, November 2nd will be a teacher workday- there will be no school for students.

     

    Mark your calendars, report cards will go home on Tuesday, November 13th during our Fall Student Led Conferences. RSVP's will be sent home shortly for the Chick Fil-A meal that will be served- please return it asap.

    The following are announcements for the week of October 21st:

    Mon. - 10/22 - Double up against Drugs (Twin Day- use smod free guidelines)

    Tues. - 10/23- Mix it Up Day at lunch (Mixed up/Wacky Tacky* - use smod free guidelines)

    Wed. - 10/24-Team Up Against Drugs* Unity Day – (Favorite Sports Team shirt with jeans _ smod free guidelines)

    Thurs.-10/25-Think Pink Day-partner with Allen Jay Elementary (Megan White-Memorial)

    Megan White was a 3rd grade teacher at Allen Jay Elementary that battled breast cancer.   She passed away shortly after the start of school this school year. We will ask our Tiger Family to donate $1 to wear pink on that day that will go towards a special book section that is dedicated to her in the Allen Jay Media Center.   (Students may pay $1 to wear smod free top pink top and jeans)

    Fri.-10/26-Red Ribbon Day – SMOD free day- 6 Leaderchips- students are encouraged to wear red for red ribbon week)

     

    Leadership Team Meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 23rd at 4:15pm- parents are welcome to attend.

     

    Interim assessments will be given Wednesday, October 24th , Thursday, October 25th, October 26th (8th grade Science only)- Please be sure that students are at school and time each and every day, and that they have a good night's rest.

     

    PTA Dance will be held this Friday, October 26th from 6-8pm. Admission is $5- concessions will be available- the theme is Glow- look forward to seeing you there!

     

    If you have not already turned in your tablet agreement, please do so asap so that you can use your tablet at school.

     

    Book-a-ween is Wednesday October 31st- remember to turn in your permission by Friday to participate!

  • Week of October 14, 2018

    The following are the announcements for the week of October 14th:

     

    Reminder for all students to return their tablet agreements to receive their tablets to use at school- tablets will be deployed this week- please return to your teacher asap so you can receive your tablet.

     

    October 15th is the deadline for all students who were free and reduced lunch last year, or at a CEP school last year to submit a 2018-19 Free and Reduced lunch form. These forms are located in our school office and cafeteria, and can also be completed online at https://www.lunchapplication.com/.  If you have questions, please contact Ms. Walz, cafeteria manager. 

     

    Late buses will begin on Wednesday, October 17th and will run each Wednesday and Thursday until May 2019.  Please be sure that you have communicated with your child's teacher by Tuesday to stay after on Wednesdays or on Wednesdays to stay after on  Thursdays for study hall, tutoring or clubs.  Buses will arrive to campus by 4:15 and leave by 4:30.

     

     

    PTA Spirit night on Thursday 10/18 at Cookout on Wendover Ave from 6-10pm.  WGMS will receive a percentage of the profits- come out and support WGMS!

     

    Red Ribbon Week is coming! During the week of October 22- 25th students will have an opportunity to show their school spirit and commitment to say no to drugs and negative behaviors. Please remember to follow smod free guidelines to participate in these spirit days! We will accept donations shortly for the Think Pink day on Thursday October 25th to honor one of the teachers in our district who battled breast cancer and passed away shortly after the start of school.

  • Week of October 7th, 2018

    The following are announcements for the week of October 7th, 2018

    Tuesday, October 9th is the last day to turn in Free/Reduced Lunch Forms before charges of $2.85 per meal are applied to account.  Students brought home fee notices on Friday. 

    Tablet deployment, originally scheduled for October 6-8, has been delayed. Tablet deployment to students will not begin until we have at least 80% of the Tablet Usage Agreements returned. Currently, we have less than 50% returned. It is imperative that you fill out and sign the Usage form and return it to your student’s homeroom teacher. Once tablets have been deployed students will only use them in class. Tablets will not go home with students.

    Late buses and afterschool tutoring will being on October 17th, 2018 and will be held each Wednesday and Thursday through EOG testing in May.  Students must have parent permission to stay after for activities.  The schedule of staff tutoring days can be found in the October newsletter, which will be posted this week.  Please contact your child's teacher for additional information.

    The following are announcements for the week of September 30th, 2018

     

    GCS Make up Days for the inclement weather on September 14th and 17th days will occur on Thursday, November 1st and Tuesday, January 18th, which will now be regular school days.

     

    All students whose parents have joined PTA by tomorrow, October 1st, 2018 will earn an additional SMOD Free day on Friday, October 5th. These students will receive special notifications this week.

     

    Tablet agreements have been sent home with all students.  Agreements must be signed by parents and returned in order for students to use tablets at school. Tablets will not go home with students this year.

     

    Late buses and afterschool tutoring will being on October 17th, 2018 and will be held each Wednesday and Thursday through EOG testing in May.  Students must have parent permission to stay after for activities.  The schedule of staff tutoring days can be found in the October newsletter, which will be posted this week.  Please contact your child's teacher for additional information.

    The following are announcements for the week of September 23rd:

    During the week of September 24–28th, 2018, hundreds of schools and youth organizations across the United States will participate in Start With Hello Week and teach students, grades 2–12, the skills they need to create a culture of inclusion and connectedness, and encourage them to reach out to and include those who may be dealing with chronic social isolation. On next Monday, September 24th, students can wear a SMOD free appropriate green top (that's at least 50% green) and smod free appropriate jeans to signify the start of this special week. Students will participate in special activities during LEAD block to raises awareness about social isolation and educates students and the community on how to prevent it.

    Parents, please be reminded that school and district policy states that cell phones are not permitted during the school day. Students are to secure their phones in lockers when they enter the school building and can retrieve them at dismissal. They will be confiscated if discovered by school staff, and appropriate consequences will initiated. Thank you for your support to keep our students' focus on instruction during the school day.  Please also be reminded that pick up and drop off is not permitted on Lindley Rd. The Lindley Rd. entrance is for buses only.  All car rider drop off and pick up is on Guilford College Rd. only.  Thank you for helping us keep students safe and for following the direction of staff on duty.

    In accordance with state law, students must provide documentation of receiving the MCV and Tdap vaccine by Tuesday, September 25th or they will be excluded from school. Appointment cards cannot be accepted- please contact the office if you have questions.

    The WGMS Leadership team will meet on Tuesday, September 25th beginning at 3:30pm.  

    The WGMS PTA planning meeting will be held on Tuesday evening beginning at 6pm.  All are welcome to attend.

    Lenovo tablet agreements will be sent home with students on Wednesday, September 26th.  90% of correctly signed agreements must be returned in order for students to receive access to tablets.  Tablets will not go home with students this school year.  Additional information will be provided at Walk the Schedule Night this Thursday 9/27.

    Walk the schedule night will be held on Thursday, September 27th from 6-8:30pm. The evening will begin with an open PTA meeting, and Students and parents will have an opportunity to walk their schedules and meet each teacher.  Interim assessments will also be sent home on Thursday 9/27. Please sign and return these for each class and return to school on Thursday evening or Friday.

    All PTA spirit orders can be submitted by completing the request form that PTA has sent home.  T-shirts are $10, long sleeved t’s are $15, and fleece jackets are $30.  The completed requests will be delivered to students’ home room classes. Spirit wear will also be available during Walk the Schedule night on Thursday evening.

    Friday, September 28th will be a SMOD free day for students who have earned 5 Leaderchips.  Please be sure to review the SMOD free policy on our website and in the student handbook- thank you for following guidelines.

    Our first PTA dance will also be held on Friday, September 28th from 6-8pm. The cost is $5 and concessions will be available.  Thank you for supporting our students and our PTA- don't forget to join for $5 by October 1st, and students will earn another SMOD free day on October 5th.
