Weekly Announcements 5/28/23
Posted by Aislynn Denny on 5/28/2023Good Evening Tiger Families, this is Chase Arrington, Principal at Western Guilford Middle School bringing you announcements for the week of Monday, May 29th – Friday, June 2nd.
Guilford County Schools will be closed Monday, May 29th in honor of Memorial Day formerly known as Decoration Day, to honor and mourn the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
This past Friday I shared with students that there is no longer In School Suspension for the remainder of the school year. I encouraged students to think about their choices when interacting with peers and staff. Additionally, we discussed self-regulation and how to seek assistance from an adult if challenges arise. In the event students receive an office referral, it may result in Out of School Suspension. Please encourage your child to make great choices as we approach the last 9 days of the school year. I know our students can make great choices and with your assistance at home we can continue providing a safe environment for all students to thrive and grow. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to the school.
We will begin EOG testing this week:
- Tuesday, May 30th we will test students that require small group setting for Reading.
- Wednesday, May 31st we will test Reading EOG Schoolwide.
- Thursday, June 1st we will test Math EOG Schoolwide.
- Friday, June 2nd we will complete small group testing and Math 2 students will take their final exam.
Please be mindful if students arrive to school after the testing session begins, they will not be admitted to the test session. They will have an opportunity to make-up their test later.
Additionally, no cell phones and/or smart watches are permitted during the testing session. We will require, per our school policy, for students to have their cell phones stored in their lockers and/or turn in to their teacher during the testing session. If a cell phone or device is found on a student during the testing session, this could cause a misadministration. This will result in a student receiving Out of School Suspension as it is a violation of the testing session. Please assist us to enforce this policy during the testing sessions.
In preparation for End of Year Award Programs, please take note of the following dates:
Thursday, June 8th, 8th grade will have their End of Year Awards Program and Promotional Exercises at 6pm. Students are encouraged to dress up as we honor their academic progress for the year. Students will be required to be on campus by 5:30pm in preparation for their program.
Friday, June 9th, we will honor 7th grade with their Awards Program at 9am and 6th grade will have their awards program at 11am. Parents of students receiving awards will be contacted in advance.
Thank you for all you do to support Tiger Nation! Have a wonderful week!

Weekly Announcements 3/5/23
Posted by Aislynn Denny on 3/5/2023 9:00:00 PMGood Evening Tiger Nation Families, this is Principal Chase Arrington at Western Guilford Middle School bringing you announcements for the week of Monday, March 6th – Friday, March 10th.
Happy Women’s History Month to all the women in the Tiger Nation Community. We celebrate Women’s History Month from March 1 – March 31 of each year.
Women’s History Month is a dedicated month to reflect on the often-overlooked contributions of women to United States history. From Abigail Adams to Susan B. Anthony, Sojourner Truth to Rosa Parks, the timeline of women’s history milestones stretches back to the founding of the United States.
The actual celebration of Women’s History Month grew out of a weeklong celebration of women’s contributions to culture, history and society organized by the school district of Sonoma, California, in 1978. Presentations were given at dozens of schools, hundreds of students participated in a “Real Woman” essay contest and a parade was held in downtown Santa Rosa.
A few years later, the idea caught on within communities, school districts and organizations across the country. In 1980, President Jimmy Carter issued the first presidential proclamation declaring the week of March 8 as National Women’s History Week. The U.S. Congress followed suit the next year, passing a resolution establishing a national celebration. Six years later, the National Women’s History Project successfully petitioned Congress to expand the event to the entire month of March.
Tryouts for Spring Sports will begin Monday, March 6th immediately following dismissal. Please pick up students no later than 5:30pm if they stay for spring sports tryouts.
Thursday, March 9th, students currently enrolled in Math 1 will take their 3rd quarter Math 1 Interim Assessment. Please have students at 8:20am so we may begin testing at 8:45am. All other students will follow their regular schedule.
Friday, March 10th, 7th graders are going on a trip to see the Greensboro Symphony. Field Trip permission forms went home last week. Please have students return permission forms no later than Wednesday, March 8th. There is no fee attached to this field trip.
We will have our Annual Career Day March 17th.We are seeking volunteers to share their knowledge of their career choice and the industry you work today. If you are interested or know someone interested in participating in our Career Day, please share the link. You may also contact Ms. Roslyn Miller at the school.
