Since moving to our new school, the schools' Service Learning (SL) Project of "Making Blankets for People Who are Homeless" (an ongoing functional work activity for our students) heightened student's awareness of issues surrounding homelessness, food insecurities, and the need to simply help those less fortunate.
The issues surrounding "Food Insecurities" became paramount last fall as our Career Technical Education (CTE) teachers attended a SL Coaches training led by Guilford County Schools. Learning that North Carolina ranked 2nd in the nation and #1 in Guilford County for "Food Insecurities," makes our students and staff very sad.
CJ Greene Mustang's accepted the call to action and with the help of our schools' Service Learning Committee, individual classroom projects and CTE teacher's projects and activities we hope to make a positive impact in reducing an insufficient food supply for citizens in Guilford County.
CJ Greene has also been the recipient of a Gift of Giving Grant for its Greene's Giving Garden from the Character Development Department in Guilford County Schools as well as recently submitting consideration for recognition with the 2016 Promising Practices Award.
Check out the many projects our students have undertaken all for the purpose of helping others in need.
Don't forget to send in some non-perishable canned good items to assist our ongoing Food Drive efforts.
