Hello and welcome to our class website!
I am Jessica Morgan and I am so excited to be a part of the first grade team at Oak Ridge Elementary! I am originally from Charlotte, NC and attending Western Carolina University where I was a member of the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program. I believe teaching is the most rewarding profession one can hold, and I treasure the opportunity to teach and nurture your children.
I believe that all children are capable of learning and it is up to myself, as the teacher, to create an environment for children of all abilities are able to flourish. I strive to do this by creating engaging lessons for my students and integrating research-based strategies such as flexible seating and whole-brain instruction into our daily curriculum. These practices combined with a strong focus on positive reinforcement as well as high expectations sets the stage for excellence in my classroom.
Students in my class begin learning about growth mindset during the first week of school. We talk about growth constantly, and strive to seek solutions to problems we come across, rather than becoming stuck in a "fixed mindset". Students learn critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills by learning to voice a concern and then seek help to find a solution.
I am passionate about teaching children, and I believe that together, with the support of our school, community, and families, all students will be successful this year. I look forward to embarking on this journey with you!
