Social Work Services
Children encounter a variety of factors that may present challenges with learning. Examples of issues that may interfere with learning include:
Stressful family situations Academic performance
Homelessness Substance abuse
Family violence Social challenges
Inappropriate behavior Poor attendance
Economic deprivation Cultural differences
The School Social Worker can assist through assessment of student needs, direct services to students (individual and small group), advocacy, consultation with teachers and other staff, exceptional child evaluations, crisis intervention, referrals to community agencies, and participation on school and system wide teams.
