Welcome! I am a third year teacher at Northern and I am very excited to teach Biology and Genetics this year.

I am originally from Ireland and moved to Greensboro in the fall of 2014. Prior to joining the Northern family I spent 4 years at the University of East Anglia (in England) completing my PhD in the study of nutrition and genetics. Previous to my doctoral studies I worked as an English language teacher in Nagasaki, Japan at Oosaki and Nishi-Sonogi High schools. I am also a proud alumni of Trinity College Dublin, where I earned my Bachelors degree in Biochemistry and Cell Biology.

I'm looking forward meeting you all and working with your sons and daughters this year. If you wish to contact me please e-mail me at mcmanus@gcsnc.com - I always like to meet parents, so if there is anything you would like to talk about or you would just like to put a face to the name, please shoot me an e-mail and stop by. My door is always open.

All classes I teach involve practical laboratory based learning and investigation. The materials for these labs are most often bought at local grocery stores and big box stores by teachers. If you would like to contribute to provision of materials for labs the items below are often utilized:

    • Distilled water

    • Cheesecloth for DNA extraction

    • Hydrogen Peroxide, Isopropyl Alcohol, Aspirin, Seeds, etc
