  • Our Mission:

    The mission of the GCS Professional Learning Department is to improve student achievement through the creation of a professional learning community that provides high quality professional development opportunities by supporting the district's strategic plan, exploring current research in education, promoting more effective teaching and learning, and fostering personal and professional growth.

    The Professional Learning Department of GCS oversees high quality professional development by: 

    • providing workshops based on effective teaching and learning strategies;

    • ensuring that professional development reflects current research and best practices in education; and,

    • providing staff with choices of professional development activities for re-certification that tie to individual, school and district goals.

  • Introducing Asia through Buddhism

    The North Carolina Teaching Asia Network, based at UNC-Chapel Hill, is offering a free professional development workshop, "Introducing Asia through Buddhism," for K-12 educators.

    Programs are one-week workshops held across the nation that enhance how K-12 educators, higher education faculty, and humanities professionals incorporate place-based approaches to humanities teaching and scholarship.
