Mr. Donevin Hoskins

Principal Donevin Hoskins is a graduate of Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he earned a B. S. in Business Administration and Marketing as well as a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision. For 9 years, Mr. Hoskins taught Middle School Math, High School Math, and Physical Education before serving as Dean of Students and Assistant Principal at two high schools in Louisiana. In 1999, Mr. Hoskins moved to North Carolina where he soon became the Head Principal of the International Business and Communications School at Olympic High School, being recognized as a “School of Distinction” for 80% of students having ‘met’ or ‘exceeded’ proficiency targets. Next, he became the director of Student Achievement for the Academy of Urban School Leadership (AUSL) in Chicago where he lead the work of the principals in 4 of the most chronically underperforming schools in that system. During a nationwide search, and as a result of the school reforms and academic progress fostered during his tenure at the AUSL, Mr. Hoskins was recruited to serve as the Principal of Towers High School in Dekalb County Georgia. After spending a year in Georgia, he returned to his roots in North Carolina. Since 2013, Mr. Donevin Hoskins has been the Head Principal at Ben L. Smith High School. His philosophy on education is simple: Spend each day working to inspire those with whom he works. He is constantly in pursuit of new and different ideas, suggestions or solutions, and just as Smith’s motto states, he believes in, “NO EXCUSES!” In 2014, he was recognized by Discovery Education for “Outstanding Leadership” for the past 3 consecutive years as principal of one of the “Nation’s Most [academically] Challenging Schools” by the Washington Post.
