Welcome to Mrs. Mason's Homepage
I grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina and moved to Greensboro, NC for school. In 2014 I married my husband, Stuart. We have two dogs, Abby (the grandma), Bella (the silly one) and one cat, Ginger (Ms. Independent). We also welcomed our first child, Miles in December 2016. I enjoy traveling and seeing new places, shooting photography, spending time in the North Carolina mountains, playing board games, and spending time with family and friends.
I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2003 with a BS in Human Development and Family Studies with a concentration in Child and Adolescent. My passion during my undergraduate studies was to work with at risk youth and positively make an impact in their lives. Upon graduating in 2003, I had a difficult time finding a good fit for me in the area, so I came across an ACES group leader position job while I continued to search for a job in my field. Little did I know that becoming a Guilford County Schools employee in September 2003 would change my passion and career! I worked as an ACES group leader and a substitute teacher for a few years. While substituting, I found a passion of educating children in a school type setting. I loved education so much, I quickly enrolled at Greensboro College to become a teacher. I became an assistant teacher and went to school at nighttime to pursue my teaching degree. In 2008, I started my first year teaching as a 2nd grade teacher! I continued teaching 2nd grade for 5 years and then became a 3rd grade teacher. This will be my 11th year teaching and my 5th year at Florence Elementary! Last year I pursued my National Board Teaching certification and just recently found out that I officially certified!
I often write Donor's Choose projects to enhance my classroom or my professional development. I have received iPads, StoryWorks Jr subscriptions, Ron Clark Academy Educational Day Visit, and most recently bug books to enhance our researching skills for literacy.
