• Hi there! My name is Kristy Schewe. I am a 5th grade teacher at McNair Elementary School. This is my fifth year here, and my twelfth year teaching. I have taught fourth and fifth grade my entire career. I love working with children at this age because they are just starting to think about the world beyond themselves. It's so much fun to see kids begin thinking about what they want to do with their lives, where they see themselves in the future, and I enjoy challenging children to see the bigger picture. I also love being able to teach kids not just the curriculum, but how to think about other people, doing the right thing, and how to prepare for their future.

This year I will be working with the science and math teacher to help children grow as they venture through the fifth grade. I will be their reading teacher, using the reading program called ARC, or American Reading Company. This program has been proven to be helpful for kids of all levels - from those who love to read, to those who don't quite see the point (and eventually they get there, too!). I enjoy teaching reading to students and being able to help them understand the content of what they are reading, as well as how it applies to their own lives. I teach them how to enjoy reading and treat it as a pleasure and not just something they have to do. Reading is essential to growing as a person! When I'm not teaching, I am a mom to my one year old daughter, Nora and wife to my wonderful husband. I also have two fur babies, Maggie the dog, and Shadow the cat. In my leisure, I enjoy photography, traveling, crafting, shopping, and spending time with family. My door is always open and if you ever need anything, just give me a shout!
